The body portion of the pistol comprises a barrel l and a butt 2 and is preferably formed in two halves each of which is stamped out of sheet metal. The retaining spring is maintained in the barrel by any suitable means as by a hooked end portion 8 or bent portions 8a engaging in slots 9 provided in the abutting edges of the two halves of the barrel.

A rapid forward movementwill thus be imi ,esame sa the marble 7 which has previously been placed in the barrel l, and will project the same.
As will clearly be seen from Fig. 3 of the drawings the return movement of the ac tuating lever 14: is arrested by the stop 26 and not by the metal of the casing or body of the pistol, and damage to such casing is thereby obviated. Also during the return movement of the said lev r the outwardly projecting tooth 2li on the slidable member 16 will be situated in the recess behind by the embossed portion 30 on the lever le and thus will not be in frictional engagement with said lever.
After the projection of the marble or the like the pressure on the slidable member 16 is released whereupon the spring 2O will return the same into the position shown in Fig. l, the tooth 24, owing to its wedge shape, freely passing beneath the edge of the embossed portion 80, and thus assuming a position adapted to engage the cam surface 27 of' the lever let upon a further actuation of the slidable member 16 by the operator.
As is clearly shown, the various parts of the structure forming the pistol are few in number and of simple formation all of them with the exception of the spring being adapted to be stamped out of sheet metal. Also the parts may be easily assembled. Thus it is obvious that the cost of construction of the device will be comparatively low.
What l claim is:-
1. A toy pistol comprising a barrel, a plunger within said barrel, a pivotal actuating lever for said plunger, a member adapted to be moved relatively to said actuating lever` a spring associated with said actuating lever, means whereby said member is adapted upon an initial movement thereof to directly engage said lever and thereby to move the same into a cocked position and to impart tension to said spring, means whereby said actuating lever is adapted to directly engage said member when it is moved into its cocked position and thereby to mutually lock itself and said member in such position, and means whereby said member is adapted on further actuation thereof to further directly engage said actuating lever and thereby to move it into such a position that it may be freely actuated by said tensioned spring to effect the operation of said plunger.

A toy pistol comprising a barrel,v a plunger within said barrel and means for actuating said plunger comprising two coacting members and a spring associated with such members, such members being so related that amovement imparted to one of such members will first effect the tensioning of said spring and cause the direct engagement of the two members and thereby effeet the movement of said other meinl'ier into a locked cooking position and will then cause a further direct engagement of the tvvo members and thereby effect the movement of said other member into a position in wiich it can be freely actuated by said tensioned spring to effect the operation of said plunger.

A toy pistol comprising a barrel, a plunger within said barrel, means within said barrel for holding a projectile within such barrel preparatory to the projection thereof, a pivotal actuating lever for said plunger a member adapted to be moved relatively to said actuating lever, a spring associated with said actuating lever, means whereby said member is adapted upon an initial movement thereof to directl envase.
said lever and thereby to move the same into a cocked position and to impart tension-to said spring, means whereby said actuating lever is adapted to directly engage said member1 whenit is moved into its cocked position and thereby to mutually lock itself and said member in such position, and means whereby said member is adapted on further actuation thereof to further directly engage said actuating lever and thereby to move it into such a position that it may be freely actuated by said tensioned spring to effect the operation of said plunger.
4. A toy-pistol comprising a barrel, a
)lun'er within said barrel a curved s rin within said barrel adapted .to hold a projectile within said barrel preparatory to the projection thereof, a pivotal actuating lever for said plunger, a member adapted to be moved relatively to said actuating lever, a spring associated with said actuating lever, means whereby said member is adapted upon an initial movement thereof to directly engage said lever and thereby to move the same into a cocked position and to impart tension to said spring, means whereby said actuating lever is adapted to directly engage said member when itis moved into its cocked position and thereby to mutually lock itself and said member in such position, and .means whereby said member is adapted on further actuation thereof to further dih rectly engage said actuating lever and thereby to move it into such a position that it may be freely actuated by said tensioned spring to effect the operation of said plunger.
A toy pistol comprising a barrel, a plunger Within said barrel, a pivotal actuating lever for said plunger, a slidable member adapted to be moved relatively to said. actuating lever a spring adapted to maintain such member and such lever in their inoperative positions, a cam shaped edge on said actuating lever, an outwardly projecting member on said slidable member adapt- Ulf) ed to engage said cam shaped edge when anY initial movement is in'iparted to said slidable member and thereby to move said operating lever about its pivotal axis, means on said slidable member and on said actuating lever adapted to impart tension to said spring upon such initial movement of said slidable member, means on said actuating lever adapted to engage said slidable member when the actuating lever is moved into its cocked position thereby mutually locking such lever and member in such position, and meansV whereby on a further actuation of said slidable member said outwardly projecting member on said slidable member will actuate said actuating lever so as to move it from its locking position and then move it into such a position that it may be .freely actuated by said tensioned spring to effect the operation ofsaid plunger.

A toy pistol comprising a barrel, a plunger within said barrel, a curved spring within said barrel having corrugations therein adapted to hold a projectile within said barrel preparatory to the projection thereof, a pivotal actuating lever for said plunger, a member adapted to be moved relatively to said actuating lever, a spring associated with said actuating lever, `means whereby said member is adapted upon an initial movement thereof to directly engage said lever and thereby to move the same into a cocked position and to impart tension to said spring, means whereby said actuating lever is adapted to directly engage said member when it is moved into its cocked position and thereby to mutually lock itself and said member in such position, and means whereby said member is adapted on further actuation thereof to further directly engage said actuating lever and thereby to move it into such a position that it may be freely actuated by said tensioned Vspring to effect the operation of said plunger.

A toy pistol comprisinga barrel, a plunger within said barrel, a curved spring of hair pin shape having corrugations in each leg thereof adapted to hold. a projectile within said barrel preparatory to the projection thereof, a pivotal actuating lever for said plunger, a member adapted to be moved relatively to said actuating'lever, a spring associated with said actuating lever, means whereby said member is `adapted upon an initial movement thereof to directly engage said lever and thereby to move the same into a cocked position and to impart tension to said spring, means whereby said actuating lever is adapted to directly engage said member when it is moved into its cocked position and thereby to mutually lock itself and said member in such position, and means whereby said member is adapted on further actuation thereof to further directly engage said actuating lever and thereby to move it into such a position that it may be freely actuated by said tensioned spring to etect the operation of said plunger.

A. toy pistol comprising ax barrel, a plunger within said barrel, a pivotal actuating lever for said plunger, a slidable member adapted to be moved relatively to said actuating lever, a spring normally adapted to maintain such member and such lever in their inoperative positions; a cam shaped edge on said actuating' lever', an outwardly projecting member on said slidable member adapted to engage said cam shaped edge when. an initial movement is imparted to said slidable member and thereby to move said operating lever about its pivotal axis, means on said slidable member and on said actuating lever adapted toV impart tension to said spring upon such initial movement of said slidable member, a wedge shaped tooth shaped member in said cam shaped edge of the actuating lever adapted to engage the rear side of the upper edge of the slidable member when the actuating lever is moved into its cooking position and the pressure on said slidable member is relieved thereby frictionally engaging said slidable member and mutually locking the said member and said lever in said cocked position, and means whereby said outwardly projecting member on said slidable member will actuate said actuating lever so as to move it from its locking position and then move it into such a position that it may be freely actuated by said tensioned spring to effect the operation of said plunger.

A vtoy pistol comprising a barrel, a plunger within said barrel, a' pivotal actuating lever for said plunger, a slidable member adapted to be moved relatively to said actuating lever, a spring normally adapted to maintain such member and such lever in their inoperative positions; a'cam shaped edge on said actuating lever, an'outwardly projecting member on said slidable member adapted to engage said cam shaped edgeY when an initial movement is imparted to said slidable member and thereby to move said operating lever about its pivotal axis, means on said slidable member and on said actuating lever adapted to impart tension to said spring upon such initial movement of said slidable member, a wedge shaped tooth shaped member in said cam shaped edge of the actuating lever adapted to en-` gage the rear side of the upper edge of the slidable member when the actuating lever is moved into its cooking position and the pressure onsaid slidable member is relieved thereby frictionally engaging said slidable member and mutually locking the said member and said lever in said cocked position, and means whereby said outwardly its ilo
