MARKING TICKET.
Application filed August 3, 1922. Serial No. 579,433.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GUsTAr A. WALLIN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Flushing, county of Queens, State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Marking Tickets, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a specification, like characters on the drawing representing like parts.
This invention relates to marking tickets' such as are employed for marking fabrics, garments and other articles with price, quality or othery designations.
The 'object of the invention is to provide a marking ticket of this character with a coupon flap separably connected to the ticket, concealed when the ticket is applied to the article to be marked and readily removable without disturbing the functioning or external appearance of the ticket when in marking position. l l
These and other objects and features of the invention will appear more fully from the accompanying description and drawings and will be particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings;
Fig. l is an obverse plan View showing a preferred form of ticket embodying the invention in marking position attached to an article such as a piece of fabric;
Fig. 2 is a reverse plan view of theconstruction shown in Fig. 1 with a portion of the ticket broken away to show the concealed coupon flap;
F 1g. 3 is a view of one face of the entire marking ticket before it is folded and in the form furnished to the trade;
Fig. 4 is a similar view of the other face of the ticket;
Fig. 5 is a view in cross section taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 1.
Marking tickets of this type are commonly employed when attached to fabrics, garments and other articles to carry size, style, price and other desired indicia as well as the name of the manufacturer or dealer and advertising matter. It is desirable to combine with these marking tickets a coupon or portion which may be removed therefrom when the article is sold and thus preserve a record of the sale. Such coupons may contain the duplicate of certain or all of the indicia on the marking ticket itself, or they may contain alone or in addition thereto other information of a more or less confidential nature. f
T his invention presents a marking lticket having such a coupon portlon which may bereadily removed from the main portion" comprising two connected foldable main flaps 1 and 2. The size and shape of these flaps will vary in accordance with the use tov which the marking ticket is to be put. The line of fold 3 between these flaps is preferably formed by scoring the material of which the marking ticket is made. This material is preferably a thin cardboard or thick paper such as commonly employed in marking tickets of this character.
The main flap l at its free end or the end opposite its connection with the main flap 2 is provided with a suitable fastening device by means of which the marking ticket is secured to the goods. For this purpose an ordinary type of pointed wire staple 4c is shown. The main ap 2 at its free end or the end opposite its connection with the main flap l is provided with apertures 5 to receive the points' of the staple fastening 4.
The marking ticket is applied to the goods by folding the main flaps 1 and 2 together, placing the article to be marked such as the piece of fabric 6 between the flaps passing the points of the staple fastening 4 through the fab-ric and through the apertures 5 and bending the points of the fastening 4f back as indicated in Fig. 1.
Upon the exposed faces of the main flap 1 and 2 as indicated in Fig. 4- may be placed any desired indicia such for example as the notice illustrated on the iapl 2 and the number, size and price as illustrated on the flap 1.
The main flap 2 near its free end is provided with a long transverse slot 7 at a point further from the free end than are the apertures 5. A covering ap- 8 is connected to the free end of the slotted main fla-p 2 and is foldable thereupon, the line of fold being defined by the scored line 9 at the point where the coveringiliap 8 is-conneet-ed Vto the mai-n flap 2. This covering iiap is foldable over the fastening ,device .projecting through the apertures and is 'or staplezmeinbers-of the fastening device 4 and prevents these points from catching on other articles or coming into contact with to the 'free end Iof the covering yanyone handling the articles.
The coupon 'flap 10 issefparably connected the weakened line 11 fforined by partially ,or entirely perforating r the material of ithe ticket. kThiscoupon iiap may be provided uvithanydes'ired indicia. :As shown in SFig. .3 on yone side it =is provided with .indicia similar to the main iapil .whileasshown in Fig. :4 on :the other sidelit isfprovided with vcertain more or less confidential indicia foiirninga record suitableftobe kept'by the lperson or concern selling the goods.
When the marking ticket is 'in .position this coupon flap which `forms :with a covering flap a l*combined covering 'andcoupon flap ispassed through the slot and-lies Ibetween the main fia-ps1 and Qiso that it is entirely concealed. When V"the sale is made lthe salesman withdraws 1the. combined covering and coupon flap .fromfihe slot 7 and removes the 4coupon `fia'p by tearing it off along the weakened lline of `separation ll. The Vcio-vering flap is then replaced in the slot 7 and consequently there is no change in the external lappearance of the ticket, nor is the attachment ofthe ticket to the goods -orits .function in any way disturbed by the removal of the coupon flap.
Having thus described my invention, what I claiin as new and desire to secure by Let-` ters Patent,.is:
A y*marking ticket comp-rising tivo connected folda-ble main flaps adapted to receive betweenth-ein the article to beninarked,
lone main fiap near its :free end having a transverseslot-` and/the other main flap near its free Aend f havinga vfastening device provided with ageportionadapted tofpassthrough the fabriciand the slotted flap vand:engager therewith, ma covering ap yconnected `to the free end of the slotted `iii-ain flap, foldalble thereupon over `lthe vfastening device v.and of a width enabling it to be `passed through said slot and 'extend betweenthe Vmain flaps, and -a Vcoupon Yflap sepaizably connected fto the `free .end i of the e covering Q Hap, ,f normally concealed `:between the :main flaps, and `removable without disturbing the fuIlGtioning for 4external appearance of the yticket when in mar-kingposition. In testimony whereof, I :have signed my qnarneto this specification .GUS-TAF 1A. =WALLIN
