" to transmit the business vmailing" cards to prospective.customers, identified vWith the goods for Vmerchandise to Which'they' refer 40 -f thereby"l greatlyA increasing the effectiveness 1 of said cards in soliciting repeat orders`.
VVlt isa still furtherobject ofv my invention! to provide means 'for preventing .thefloss,

, 50, color, texture, size, andVnumb'erof-f'the Iner-VVV the merchandise and to project from said drawings one form thereof which is at presl chandise maybe accurately ascertained and fmeans v'whereby suchk delicate fabrics are packedln a clean, neat and attractive manner, my novel folding box being equally adapted forthedisplay as Well 'astheship ment of the merchandise. Y
To the above ends, my invention consists of afolding yboxy composed of a blank having a main body portion, end andside flaps'adapted tol fold over said body portion, onevof said '60 flaps being scored to form a detachable postcard,the .free end of said Hap also being scored to form a tab adapted tobear the number, size, color, andother characteristics of folded box to indicate the nature ofthe merchandise in said box Without the necessity 'of opening or unfolding said box.,y u f Y 'My invention further consists of Yvarious other novel features of constructionk andk ad#A vantage, allJ as hereinafter `describedV and claimed. e
For the purpose of illustratingmy` inven- 4 tion, I have shownin the accompanying j ent preferred by me, since thesame has been found in practice tofy give lsatisfactory and reliable results,althoughA it isft'o'rk be understood that the 'various' instrumentalities lof Whichmy invention consistscan be variously tion is not-limited` to the precisek arrange` ment and organization of the instrumentali# ties Y as herein shownl and described;
11n1theaccompanying drawings: Fig.'` 1,'represents'a plan vieW of a blank from Ywhich my novel folding-box ismade.
F.igjQ, represents a view of y'the'box in folded' condition "with' the top broken away to show the interior of the box. Fig.,3,-lrepresen'ts 'asecti'on'on line 3`3 o'f Fig. 2.
F 4,1repres`ents'a sect-ion on Aline .L /fof Fig. 2. if g Y Referringto the dravvings,"in which like 95 reference characters indicatelike parts, ,l designates a blank fromlr'which lmy novel y foldingv box cardk Vboard or paper o folder, Yis
formed, composed-of the main body portion` 2-havingtheaperture 3 therein, theend flaps 10 or row of boxes, thus apprising thesalesmanv as lto thevcontents of tfheibox without the 4, the large side flap 5, and the small oppositel disposed flap 6. The flaps 4, 5, and 6 are fbldable upon the body 2 along the scorings or creases 8 in a manner hereinafter described. Out of the side flap 6 is punched or stamped the post-card 9 which is detachable from said ap along the punching or scoring 10 and from the main body portion 2 along the scoring 11. The post-card 9 has the end extension 12 which is detachable therefrom along the scoring 13.
On one face of the post-card 9 is printed the address to which the cardis to beV ieturned as at 14, along with the permit number which entitles the sendery of the card to The tab 12 bears thenecessaiy information 16 for identifying the merchandise in the box without openingA the latter, the nature of fthe merchandise lbeing further ascertainable, if desired, through the aperture 3, in the bod portion2 of the box. Y VOn the other side of t e post-card is provided space for writing the number, size, color, etc. of the merchanto which `the merchandise is to be sent, as at.18, seeFig. 2. While the folded box containing thefmerchandise (not shown) vis in ness-,as will e apparent.l If the foldedbox is on a shelf in a store, the tab 12 will project downwardly and outwardly from the box necessit of reaching for the box or removing it Y rom the shelf. i
that a pairof stockings is not at once detach and mail the cards, unless so desi/red, but may ,at leisureand when yanalong with the merchandise tends to have the effect of influencing the customer vto put in an ordery immediately if the merchan iseis sequently sending a mailing businessfcard is obvious. It will be further apparent that by my novel invention the initial mailing of business cardsfby the merchants in order to reach prospective customers is eliminated,
time of the purchase or receipt ofthe goods for no extra mailing cost. Furthermore, due te the large size of the flap 5, which is of the same size as the body portion 2, the detaching l of the card 9 ydoes not detract from the value of the box as a packing and storing means, simioy vthe merchandise is held between the body .portion 2, the end fi'aps 4, and the remainder of kthe flap- 6 after the card 9. has
f been detached, andis completely covered or mail it without aixing stamps, asiatr 15.k
dise desired, as at 17, as well asithe namey of the sender of the card, that is, the address shipment, the tab 12 is folded along the dotted line 19 in Fi 2 for the purpose of compactshipped in my novel box, the customer need Y other pair is needed detach and mail the card. l Furthermore, the receipt of the mailing card sasfatory. That this method is more effective than first shipping the goods and ,sub- Y since the customers getthe cards at the same` enclosed by the large side flap 5. The cost of producing my novel folding box I have found to be substantially the same as the cost of producing other conventional boxes heretofore known and used and not possessing any of the advantages which my novel box has thus been shown to possess. i
It will be apparent that While I have described m novel device as being adapted to a folding ox or the like, it is equally adapted to Va-card board' folder or a paper folder or the like wherein it is desirable to have a return postcard andan end extension of the character stated for the purposes described. i
y I am aware that the invention may be embodied in other specific forms Without ydiepartin from the spirit oressential attributes thereo and I therefore desire the present Y embodiment to be consideredin all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, reference being hndpto'tlic appended claims` rather than to the. foregoing description to indicate the scope of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire vto secure by Letters Patent is: I
1,. A blank for a folding box, card board or: paper folder,y comprising a body, end flaps therefor, a side .iiapof substantially the-same area as said body, an opposed nar-V rower side Hap foldably 'oined to said body and havingl a yportiont ereof creased andv constituting a 'detachable return post-card, provided with a' detachable end extension having thereon indicia indicative ofthe merchandise to be shipped in said box.
