Application filed an 21,
To all whomit may concern.
Be it known that l, Gnonon J. HoLLAN- one, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary 'loothbrush Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a sanitarytoothbrush holder and has for its object to provide means for protecting one or more toothbrushes when not in use.
Another object ofthe invention is to provide a holder for toothbrushes and means for protecting said bruhes while supended in said holder.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a sanitary toothbrush holder tin combination with a toothpaste tube holder.
Other objects of the invention will more clearly appear from the description and claims hereinafter following.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification, Big. 1 is a side elevational view of a tooth brush holder embodying my inrention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the following specification and in the several views in the drawings in which 2 indicates a brush supporting member of hollow cylindrical form having upper closed end 3 and a lower radially projecting supporting flange 12. The upper closed end of the hollow cylinder is provided with a rectangular opening 4, having slots 5, 6, 7 and 8 extending from each corner thereof, and terminating a short distance from the edge of the cylinder. The slots 5, 6, 7 and 8 are adapted to receive the handle member of tooth brushes 9, to hold the brushes suspended in upright position. The body 10 of said cylinder member is of an external diameter substantially equal to the internal diameter of an ordinary tumbler so that the open end of the latter may be passed over the same As shown in Fig. 1, an inverted tumbler formin the cover 11 is adapted to be seated over said body 10 and upon the rim of the flange 12 of the device, to form a cover for the supporting member 2 and the brushes held thereby. By this arrangement, the tooth brushes 9, are effectively protected from dust, insects, etc. As will be noted, there is ample space between the upper closed end 3 of the sup- 192 1 Serial No. 471,461.
porting'membe'r and the top of the coverr ll of the brushes.
The member 2 is supported upon the upright arm 13 of the bracket l'el terminating in a horizontal arm 15 provided with a base plate 16 having openings to receive screws 17 whereby said bracket may be secured to a wall, or other suitable support. Fixedly mounted on the arm of'l5 is a concave preferably oblong horizontal tray 18 upon which a tube of toothpaste (not shown) is adapted to be supported.
In using my toothbrush holder, it is unnecessary to remove the cover 11 when placing the brushes in the holder or removing the same therefrom. In placing a brush in the holder, the same is inserted through the opening 4 from below, the bristle carryingend being first passed through the opening and the brush then moved laterally to engage the handle with one of the slots 5, 6, 7 or 8. It is obvious that the. brushes may also be placed in the holder by removing the cover and inserting them from the top.
I have herein shown and described what I now consider the preferred manner of carrying out my invention, but the same is merely illustrative and I contemplate all changes and modifications that come within the scope of the claims appended hereto.
Having described my invention, that which I claim is new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
l. A sanitary tooth brush holder of the character described, comprising a member of cylindrical form with one end thereof closed and disposed uppermost, said member being provided with a radially projecting annular flange at the bottom thereof, said uppermost closed end having an opening therein of sufficient area to permit insertion upwardly therethrough f the bristle end of a tooth brush and a plurality of slots of restricted width communicating with said opening in which the handle of the tooth brush may be positioned and brush thereby supported, said slots corresponding inwidth approximatelyto the thickness of the brush to accommodate the bristle carrying ends handle, the cylindrical portion of said member approximating in diameter the interior diameter of a tumbler and the outside diam eter of said flange being of greater diameter than that of the tumbler whereby a tumbler may be supported in an inverted position on said member to encase the bristle end of the tooth brushes, the brush and porting flange, and terminating adjacent tumbler being independently detachable t0 the guard flange, and an outwardly exfrom the said member. tending member for securing the body to 2.
