'IIOOTHBRUSH HOLDER Filed May 10, 1928 Patented Apr. 39, 1929.
STATES LOBENA BB IOWN'BOCK, OF OELANDO, FLORIDA,
TOOTHBRUSH HOLDER.
Application filed May 10, 1928. 1 Serial No. 276,744.
My invention relates to toothbrush'holders', and more especially; to receptaclesor con tainers for a plurality of toothbrushes and appurtenant toilet articles such as toothpaste,
. inafter.
- wall. by the wet toothbrushes and protect, the
contained toothbrushes from contact with the unsanitary wall and with each other. Otherobjebts and advantagesof my invention will sufiiciently appear from the description here In the appended drawings which form part of this application for Letters Patent, and in which like reference characters designate corresponding parts in the several views:
Figure 1 is a pers ective view of any improved toothbrush ho der;
..Fig..2 is a side elevation of thesame fixed to a wall Fig 3 is a front elevation partly in section;
-Fi 4 is a side sectional view of the device fixe to a wall with the cover raised; and
Fig. 5 is a fragmentarydetail view showingra modification he device consists essentially ofonly two parts, a back portion and a cover, indicated in the drawings by land 2, respectively. These that the contents be nected in closed unitary relation by the upper p made of glass if it is desired parts may be visible when the cover is closed; it it is desired to conceal the contained articles from-vlew porcelain or other, vitreous material may be used. In the alternative, the parts may he cheaply and readily stamped from sheet metal, which should preferably be nickel-plated, enameled, or 0t erwise rendered non-corrosive. Along its upper edge of the back portion is curved sli tly upward, thenforward and slightly thrbugh slightly more than 90 to form a segment of a hollow cylinder 3, the baselines of which lie in the same plane with the edges the back portion 1, to which they are con-. i
normally hangs vertically, may be raised, as
ownward 4 back portion downward, then forward and upward and closed to the back portion 1 bythe ower side portions "6, {7, to form the pocket or trough 8, which issubsta-ntially an inverted counterpart of the upper curved portion, except that its upward curve preferably continues into a straight portion to increase the' depth of the pocket.
Thecover 2 isrectangular in front plan. It consists of -a.frontportion '11, provided with sides 9, 1.0, atiright angles to the plane of the front portioii. The upper art of the cover; front 11 curves upward, bac (ward-and slightly downward through slightly more than 90, as shown in Fig. 4, with a slightly shorter radius of curvature than that of the upper curved portion of the back 1; and the sides 9, 10, meet the curved portion'in closed unitary relation, continuing, the line of curve dotted lines in Fig. 2. The dimensions of the entire cover are so proportioned that the part of the cover fits within the upper curved portion of the back 1. .Each of the upper side portions 4 and 9 is provided at its'center ofcurvature with a perforation, as are the upper side portions 5 and 10. Through theregistering perforations in the side portions land 9 passes the-bolt 12, and through the registering perforations in the opposite side portions 5 and lO'the bolt 13 passes. These bolts are provided withthe nuts 14 and 15, respectively, and small washers 16, 17, are disposed on the bolts between the adjacent side portions 4 and 9, and 5 and 10, respectively; The bolts thusserve as pintles by which the cover is hinged to the which shown in Fig. 4, for the purpose of inserting or removing the toothbrushes which the structure is designed to contain.
The back portion- 1 is provided with triangular slots in its upper part through whichpass brads, tacks or screws 18, 19, for the purpose of ,removablyattaching the-back por tion to the wall where it is: to be used. At oints lower down, the back portion is provided with notches extending horizontally into'the back portion from its edges,.througwhich pass the similar purpose. The. lower notchesmay conveniently extend iu-girpm the edges of the a-sufiici t distance so' thatfthe lie in theglines along whidh the itll back brads 20,21, sides 9 and 10 of the cover meet brads or tacks 20, 21, fora toothbrushes, which may take the form of a.
narrow horizontal slit 22 through which I suitable brads or hooks 23 may be passed,
to be fixed in the wall supporting the structure and serve as supports from which toothbrushes may lie hung... If the container ismade of sheet metal, suitable hooks may be provided by piercing the back portion with U-shaped cuts and bending forward the resulting tines of metal, as shown at 24 in Fig. 5.
The trough or pocket at the lower part of the back portion may be divided into'two parts by a partition 25 to provide convenient compartments for toothpaste, dental floss,
etc. Inthis trough a suitable antiseptic may be placed to. keep the toothbrushes germproof. l
It will be apparent that the structure thus described provides an attractive, sanitary and handy container for toothbrushes and toilet articles used in connection'therewith, the toothbrushes beinmreadily accessible by simply inserting the fi ngers under the lower edge of the cover front 11, lifting said cover upward as shown in Fig. 4, and liftingthe desired toothbrush onto or off of its hook.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A holder for toothbrushes and other toilet articles comprising a back portion adapted to be secured to a vertical support and terminating along its upper edge in a forward ,and upward curving cylindrical segment, a cover portion terminating along its upper edge in a backward and upward curving cylindrical "segment arranged and .adapted to fit within said forward curving cylindrical segment in hinged relation thereto, and means for hinging said cover and segment 7 as bases,
adapted .to be secured to a vertical support and terminating along its upper edge in a forward and upward curving cylindrical segment, upper side portions connecting saidv back portion and said cylindrical segment, a cover portion terminating along its upper edge in a backward and upward curving cylindrical segment, cover side portions related to said backward curving cylindrical and pintles passing through adjacent upper side portions and bases respectively placing said cover and back portions in hinged relation, whereby said cover portion is normally closed against said back portion by force of gravity alone. '3. A holder for toothbrushes and other toilet articles comprising a back portion terminating along its upper edge in a forward curving cylindrical segment, a cover portion terminating along its upper edge in a backward curving cylindrical segment arranged and. adapted to fit within said forward curvingcylindrical segment in hinged relation thereto, said back portion terminating along its lower edge in an article-holding trough or pocket. 1 4. A holder for toothbrushes and other. toilet articles comprising a back portion adapted to be secured to a vertical support and terminating along its upper edge in a forward and upward curving cylindrical segment, a cover portion terminating along its upper edge in a backward and upward curving cylindrical segment arrangcdand adapted to fit within said forward curving c lindrical segment in hinged relation 't creto, and means for hingingsaid cover and back portions together, whereby said cover portion is'normally closed against said back portion by force of gravity alone, said bacli portion being provided with an aperture through which means torsupporting toothbrushes are adapted to be passed.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
