Description
C. W. SALADEE.

WITNESSES v INVENTOR.
UNITED, STATES PATENT OFFICE,
CYRUS WV. SA-LADEE, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHECK-REIN HOOKS FOR HARNESS-PADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,500, dated March 10, 1874; application filed February 17, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CYRUS WV. SALADEE, of Pittsburg, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain Improvement in Spring Rein-Hook for Harnessdad, of which the following is a specification embodying my invention:
The nature ot'this invention consists in the construction of a rein-hook for harness-pads actuated by a concealed spiral spring, and has for its object the prevention oi'the cheek-rein from becoming unlocked while the horse is in motion. I
The drawing is a )erspective view of the complete device, wherein A represents the main standard; B, the bolt by which it is secured to the pad; 0, the tube containing the spring; 1), the standard resting upon the spring in the tube 0; E, the spiral spring in dotted lines; F, the lower hook, and H the upper hook, of the complete device. The lower hook F and the short tube 0 are formed solid with and as part of the main standard A. The upper hook H passes through, and is pivoted to, the main standard A. In the tube 0 is placed the spring, as seen in dotted lines, and within the coil of the spring is placed the short move ble standard D, having CASE B.
l a shoulder near the top, which rests upon the spring. The top of the short standard D is brought to a point, or nearly so, and is made to rest against the under side of the front end of the hook H. It will thus be seen that as the spring presses the head of the standard D against the point of the hook H, the rear end of the latter is firmly held down upon the point of the lower hook F, and thus securely holds the rein in its position under all circumstances.
This arrangement of rein-hook admits of a great variety of style, and I so contemplate man ufacturing them.
I claim as my invention 1. In reinhooks for harness-pads,themovable hook H, actuated by a wholly concealed spring, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The standard A, having combined therewith the lower hook F, hollow tube 0, spring E, short standard D, and movable hook H, all combined, arranged, and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
