To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GALEN A. HAIYGHT, a citizen of the United States, residin at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and tate of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Toy, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a toy adapted for use with kites and the like for conveying messages and parachutes to the kite upon the kite string the toy serving as a tro ley for conveying the articles to the kite where they will be automatically released from the conveyor and has for its object the provision of such a toy which will be simple 1n structure, economical of manufacture and highly efiicient in use.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a toy of the class described haying a keeper mounted slideably on the main body portion of the device, the retaining members for said keeper being struck from the main body.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a toy of the class described having a slideable keeper mounted on the main body portion and so formed as to revent its undue removal from the said bo y portion.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a toy of the class described having wheels mounted thereon, the bearings for the shaft upon which said wheels are mounted being formed integral with the main body portion. A

The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood from a reference to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specifica tion and in which,

The referred form of structure comprises a main ody portion 9 punched out of which are

10, 11 and 12, each of which is provided with an opening in which-1s extending for slideable movement a rod 13, one end of which is doubled upon itself to form a U-shaped portion, said end 16 being sharpened and the tongues 10 and 11 being each provided with an additional opening for the reception of the doubled over ortion of the rod. The rod 13 is provlded with a stop at 14 and 15 to prevent the removal of the rod from operative position said stops being formed by a crimping of the rod. These stops are so positioned that when the rod is moved to inoperative position the sharpened end will still be projected through the tongue 11. 19, 19', 20 and 20 which are provided with openings adapted for the reception of a shaft on which is mounted a pulley wheel, one wheel 21 being at one end of the body and another wheel 22 being at the opposite end of the body. One end of the body is provided with a tongue 23 which is turned backwardly upon the main body toward the wheel 22 the extreme end 23 thereof being curled so that a suitable guide for a cord or string upon which the pulley rides is formed. The opposite end of the main body is likewise provided with a guide formed from the

24 and 24. Fastened to the kite string 26, adjacent the kite 27 is an abutment member 25 which may be formed from card board, metal or other suitable material.

The device is used as a toy for conveying .a parachute 28 ulp a kite string and then releasing it to fa to earth, the strings of the parachute being provided with suficient weight to bring the parachute downwardly in upright position so that it will fill with air, as will be readily understood. The parachute is provided with a rin or other suitable means for engaging the eg of the U-shaped portion of the rod. In use the device may also be used to carry small pieces of paper, and the like the sharpened end of the rod being thrust through the paper. The method of release is then the same, the ton e ll serving as a back to allow the remove of the paper from the rod when moved to inoperative or releasing position. J

3. In a toy of the class described, a main body portion; rotatable members mounted thereon; and guide members positioned adjacent each of said rotatable members comrising a doubled-over portion of said main ody portion and having the ends thereof angularly turned downwardly toward said main body portion.
