Application filed November y9, 1925. Serial No. 67,901.
This invention relates to amusement devices and has for its object theprovision of a novel device adapted for use as a play bag or, when suspended, as astriking or punching bag, the device being not only of durable while cheap construction but provided with certain specific features highlyattractive to the juvenile mind so as to promote its use.
With theabove and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts.
to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which.
y Figure l is a perspectivey view of thefdevice.V
Figure 2 is a side or edge elevation thereof. i
Figure 3 is a view of the blank from which the handle or suspension member is formed.
Figure I is a detail cross-section on the line ylg-7 4 of Figure l. Referring more particularly to the drawings, I have shown the device as comprising a body 10 which may be constructed of any suitable flexible material, the exact nature de- ,pendingy upon the contemplated cost though it might be mentioned that cloth, oilcloth, rubbery orleather, real or, imitation, would be being preferably of substantially pear-shape and may, in actual practice, be formed from tion 14is folded longitudinally along theV line 16 and stitched, as shown at 17, and then verysuitable. .This body is represented asr folded transversely at its center, as indicated at 18, to define the handle member, the end portions 15 ybeing inserted within the bag or against the inner surfaces of the pieces formingthe same and stitched or otherwise secured, as indicated at 19, to strengthen the structure. l y i To render the device particularly attractive to the juvenile mind, grotesque faces or theflike may be painted, printed or otherwise inscribed upon the exterior.
IVhen not suspended, the device may be used in substantially the same manner as the old ywell known bean bagi and when suspended by a rope or other equivalent element it gives good service as a punching or striking bag, especially as the grotesquefaces will stimulate children to ydeliver a hearty punch, they consequently getting the benefit of exercise while being entertained.
Whilev I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invent-ion it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the construction as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim. f
I-Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim is:
In a `device kof the character described, a bag having one end of flaring shape, and a supporting handle for the bag formed from a single blank of flexible material having an elongated rectangular intermediate portion and trapezoidal end portions, said rectangular intermediate portion being folded longitudinally to provide a plurality of plies and beingffolded transversely to define a loop, said trapezoidal end portions being located within the smaller end of the bag and secured thereto yin conforming relation to the shape thereof.
y In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
HAROLD GREGORY FRENCH.
