Description
Fatented Dec. 23, 1924, &5205555 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LILLIAN AULD, OF EUGENE, OR-EGON.
TOY FIGURE. Application filed. September 20, 1922. ser al No. 589,428.
"i"o (tll 'lULO/L Z' may Concern: material, is designed to produce a silhouette Be it known that I, LILLIAN AULD, a citi effect or in Other words all portions of the Zen of the United States, and resident of figure are of a corresponding solid Color Eugene, in the County of Lane and State such as blue, red etc., or a combination of of Oregon, have invented certain new and such COlOl'S all of which are in contrast to useful Improvements in Toy Figures, of the color of the backing 10, Which is pref Which the following is a specification. erably white.
My invention relates to toy figures and In forming my improved figure I emparticularly to that type wherein the anaploy a plurality of Separate anatomical por- 10 tomical portions of the figure are formed tions A formed from relatively thin flexible separate to impose the necessity of assomaterial, such as paper, and comprising a ciating these portions in certain relative body member 11,' leg members 12, head relations to form the complete figure. member 13, and a tail member 14. All of In carrying my invention into effect it these anatomical portions have their rear 15 has been my purpose to provide a toy figure face provided with suitable adhesive 15 of the type indicated whose formation from whereby they may be permanently assoseparate elements Will prove both enterciated with the backing 10 if desired. It
taining and instructive, which Will permit will be observed that the body member unlimited variations in the relative relar 11 has the form of a Circular disk and this 0 tions of the anatomical portions to thereform of body member remains unchanged by produce unlimited variations in the no matter what specie of mammal Or bird posture or attitude of the complete figure, the anatomical portions are designed to repin which the anatomical portions can be resent when in associated relation. In manufactured atnegligible cost and which Figures l to 4 it Will be observed that these can be made truly reproductive of unlimitanatomical portions are designed to repreed specie of animals With the employment sent a bear and that by shifting the po of a similar body portion in each instance. sition of the head, leg and tail members In describing my invention in detail refrelatively to each other and to the body an i erence Will be had to the accompanying unlimited number of postures can be imdrawing in which parted to the complete figure, such innite Figure l is a face view of the anatomical number of postures being rendered possible portions of my improved toy figure deby constructing the body member in the signed to represent a bear in the complete form of a Circular disk. In Figures 3, 4, fig ra; 6 and 7 I have illustrated such variation in 35 Figure 2, a section through one of the the posture of the figure as a result of Shiftanatomical portions showing the layer of ing the anatomical portions of the figure adhesive on the rear face thereof; relative to each Other.
Figure 3, a face View of the complete In constructlng the head, leg and tall figure mounted on a backing of paper. members I shape all Or a part of their inner 40 Figure 4., a view similar to Figure 3 defining edges to conform to the circumfer- With the anatomical portions in a different ence of the body member as at 16 and prefrelation to represent the animal in another erably, in thevformation of the figure such posture. inner defining edges of the head, legs and Figure 5. a view similar to Figure l With tail member are slightly spaced from the de the anatonlical portion designed to reprefining edge or circumference of the body sent an elephant in the complete figure; member, so as to impart distinctiveness to Figure 6, a view sim lar to Figure 3 ut1- the resultlng figure. A lizmg the elements of Flgure 5, and In F lgures 5 to 7 l have lllustrated the Figure 7, a view similar to Figure 5, utilization of my invention in producing the 50 with the anatomical portions in a different figure of an elephant. In this application relation to represent the animal in another of the invention the plurality of separate posture. anatomical portions are indicated by B, Said Referring to the drawing it Will be apportions comprising a body member 17, leg parent that my improved toy figure, when members 18, head member 19, and a tail 55 placed Or permanently mounted upon a Suitmember 20; all of said members having all able backing 10 of paper or other suitable or a part of their inner defining edges Shaped to conform to the circumference of the body member as at 21. In this instance, I have shown the outer face of the anatomical port-ions as red To increase the element of entertainment in the produced figure various contrivances Such as stands, balls and the like can beproduced in silhouette and associated With the figure to represent animals in performing atttudes commonly seen in ordnary circuses.
Whilel have specifically described my invention as applied to a figure comprising separate anatomical portions formed from thin Sheet material, such as paper, it Will be obvious that such portions may be constructed of other material and that various changes in 'form and arrangement may be resorted to Without departin'g from the scope of the appended Claims.
I claim 2- 1. A figure toy comprising a body, a plurality of anatomical members, said body including an endless defining limit completely around Which the anatomical members are adapted to be moved i-n correct anatomical sequence and vvi-th a predetermined limit thereof opposed to the defining limit of the body, Said defining limit of the body having all points therein equidistant from the aXis about' Which the anatomical members are adapted' to be moved, whereby an indefinite number of postures may be imparted to the figure and the' correct anatonical relation between the body and each anatolnical member maintained irrespective of the position to Which said member may be moved With re- Spect to the body.
2. A gure toy comprising a body including, a defining limit formed of Circular elements having a common a-Xis, a plurality of anatomical members each having a' predetermined limit conforming to the defining limit of the body and completely around Which latter they are adapted to be indefinitely moved` in correct anatomical sequence on .the aXi sof said Circular elements and With their said predetermined limits opposed to the defining limit of the body whereby an indefinite number of difierent postures may be imparted to the figure and correct &natomica-l relation between the body and each anatomieal member maintained irrespective of the' position to- Which said' member may be moved With respect to, the body.
In testimony Whereof I hereunto afliX my Signature.
LILLIAN ALD.
