Description
Patentd March 10. 1874.
mvnom ATTUBNE UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. LATEY AND JOHN D. WILLIAMS, OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH TER.
IMPROVEMENT IN SMELTlNG-FURNACES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,371, dated March 10, 1874 application filed November 15, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN H. LATEY and J OHN D. WILLIAMS, of Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake and Territory of Utah, have invented a new and Improved smelting- Furnace; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification. I
The invention consists in combining an adjustable draft-pipe with the moistening-tank, into which .the smoke of smelting-furnace is passed, so that the draft-pipe may be adjusted to a higher or lower point therein, as hereinafter described.
The drawing is a sectional elevation of two smelting-furnaces that discharge into a chamber or tank.
A represents the stacks of two furnaces, B B, which are curvedvso as to discharge downward into the chamber or tank G, into which water or jets of water or steam are introduced to cause the particles of gold, silver, or lead driven off in the fumes to be precipitated. D represents the escape-pipe to the chamber, in which is placed the adjustable pipe to regulate and graduate the draft, according to circumstances. The pipe E is made adjustable in the tank, and performs the function of determining the draft of the furnace.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combinatiomwith one or in ore furnaces, B, and a tank, 7, connected by a stack or stacks, A, of the adjustable draft-pipe E, as and for the purpose specified.
