Description

C.' WILSDN..
Saslhllolders.` I No. 148,342. n Patented March 10.1814.`
dat/ www UNITED STATES 4PATENT OFFICE..
CHARLES WILSON, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASHHOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,342, dated March 10, 1874; application filed July 2, 1873.
thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specilication.
The nature of my invention consists of a bar of flat metal, with one end turned inward and the other end turned outward, arranged in a window-frame, behind the edges of the sash and parting-strip, and operated by means of a set-screw pressing upon a metal plate arranged in the bead of the window-frame, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure lis a perspective View of a windowframe with sash and my fasteners on the same. Fig. 2 is a section of the fastener.
Arepresents a window-frame; B, the upper, and C the lower, sash, with parting-strip D between them, said parts being constructed and arranged in any of the known and usual ways. The sash is fastened by means of the following device: a represents a flat bar, let horizontally into the casing, and extending from the front of the frame or casing along the edge of the lower sash C, under the parting-strip D, and along and beyond the upper sash B. The outer end b of the bar a is bent outward, and has a setscrew, G, passing through it, which bears against a plate, e, inserted in the head of the window frame or casing A. The inner end d of the bar a is bent inward, so as to come on the outside of the side rail of the upper sash, as shown in Fig. 2.
By tightening the set-screw Gr, the bar a is drawn outward, so that the end d thereof will draw the sash B tightly against the *parting-v strip D, and hold it in any position. By loos; ening the set-screw G, the sash B can readily' beraised or lowered, as desired.
Two bars, constructed as bar ce is, can be usedone for the upper and one for the lower sashif desired; or one bar can be made to 'operate both windows by using an elastic or have hereunto set my hand this 14th day of June, 1873.
CHARLES WILSON.
