G. B. MELLUS HosE Filed Oct. 51. 1921 Patented Fe. 5, ieee.
GROVER B. MELLUS, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
HOSE.
f Application led Octoberl, 1921. Serial No. 511,587.
To @ZZ whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, GRovEn B. MnLLUs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hose, of which -the following is a specification.
My invention relates to hose, and the purpose of my invention is the provision of a sock or stocking constructed in suoli manner as to facilitate the application of a garter thereto and to co-operate with the garter in effectively supporting the hose in eX- tended position upon the leg.
I will describe three forms of hose em bodying my invention and will then point out the novel features thereof in claims.
In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a view showing one form of hose embodying my invention in applied position. n
Fig. 2 is a vertical fragmentary sectional View taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary detail view showing a modified form of hose embodying my invention.
Fig. 4 is a view similar another form of hose.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts in each of the several views.
eferring specilically to the drawings and particularly to Fig. l, my invention in its present embodiment comprises a hose woven to provide at its upper edge an annular bead 15, while at a point below the upper end of the hose a horizontal slit 16 is formed. The slit 16 is formed at a point along the length of the hose at which the clasp of a conto Fig. 1 showing ventional form of garter is adapted to be attached.
In practice,`the garter shown in Fig. 1, which is of conventional form, is applied in embracing position with relation. to the calf of the leg with the band portion of the gar ter embracing the upper end of the hose beneath but contiguous to the bead 15. The clasp portion of the garter depends in the usual manner from this band portion with the head strap extended into the slit 16 so that the head of the clasp is interposed between the leg and the hose in the manner clearly shown in Fig. 1. The socket portion of the clasp is now disposed at the outer side of the hose so that it can be readily applied to the head portion for securing the hose therebetween.
lVith the garter applied as described, it will be clear that the bead 15 functions to maintain the upper end of the hose in eX- tended position upon the leg, while the clasp of the garter engaging the hose below the slit 16 eifectually secures it in extended position about the ankle.
Referring' now to Fig. 3, I have here shown another form of hose in which a vertical slit 17 is formed therein at a point below the upper beaded edge 15. This slit vprovides an entrance opening through which the head supporting strap of the clasp is adapted to be extended so as to disposed interiorly of the hose in the same manner as described in connection with the slit 16.
In Fig. 4 I have shown a modified form of hose in. which the slits 16 and 17 are .dispensed with and are substituted by a tab 18 made during the manufacture of the hose and so disposed as to permit of the ready attaching of the garter clasp thereto. In this modified form the upper edge of the hose is also provided with the bead 15.
Although I have herein shown and described only three forms of hose embodying my invention, it is to be understood that various changes and modifications may be made herein without departing from the spirit of the invention and the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A hose having an annular bead formed at its open end, and a slit at its intermediate portion adapted to receive the head portion of a garter clasp for the purpose set forth.
2. A hose having its open end formed with an annular bead, and a circumferentially eX- tending slit formed therein at a point below the bead and for the purpose described.
3. A hose having a bead formed at its open end, and an opening formed at the intermediate portion of the hose adapted to 5. A hose having its open end formed receive a portion of a garter clasp for the With a bead, and a oircuinferentialiy eXtend- 10 purpose described. ing slit formed therein at a point below the L A hose having an annular bead formed bead for the purpose described.
5 at its open end, and an Opening formed at In testimony whereof I have signed my the intermediate portion oi the hose adapted naine to this specification. to receive a portion of a garter clasp for the purpose described. GROVER- B. MELLUS.
