Description

NITEn STATES PATENT CFFIGEQ SETH WV. JOHNSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN SUSPENDERS.
S ecification forming part oi Letter: Patent No. 148,216, dated March 3, 1874; application filed February 12, 1874. v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SETH W. JOHNSON, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Suspenders; and I do herebydeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, which drawing represents a front view of this invention.
This invention consists in the combination, with a suspender, of a slip-hook and an eyeleted tag, which is to be attached to the garment for the support of which the suspender is intended, in such ainanner that a ready and convenient connection between the suspender and the garment is obtained, and that one and the same suspender can be used for supporting two or more skirts worn one above the other.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a suspender, which is intended particularly for supporting the skirts and underskirts of 1a,- dies. On this suspender I secure the sliphooks B, each of which is made to engage with an eyelet, a, secured in a tag, O, of strong muslin or other suitable material. These tags are sold with the suspender, and when the suspender is to be used, the tags are sewed to the waistband of the skirt or other garment to be supported.
By means of these eyeleted tags, the operation of connecting and disconnecting the suspender from the garment is materially facilitated, the tag being so applied that it can be readily turned out away from the body of the person wearing the garment, so that the hook of the suspend er can be readily made to engage with or disengage from the eyelet of the tag; and, furthermore, if the suspender is to be used for supporting two orinoreskirts or underskirts, worn one above the other, the tags, when attached to the waistbands of the several skirts, can be readily turned toward one side or toward the other, so that the eyelets in the several tags will come exactly opposite to each other for the reception of the hooks of the suspenders.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a suspender, of a sliphook and an eyeleted tag, substantially as and for the purposes herein shown and described.
