MILTON RUSLING `WOD, NEVI YORK, N. Y.
- ADVERTISNG DEVICE.
Application filed November 4, 1920. Serial No. 421,670.
To all 'whom t may concern f Be it known that I, l/IIL'ronv RUSLING lfd/Toon, a citizen of the United States, residing at the cityl of New York, in the county of New York, inthe State of New York, have invented new and useful Improve ments in Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that form of advertising device comprising an upright panel, cut out to receive a specimen of the article which is advertised on the panel.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind so constructed that thc panel will be held upright at all times without depending solely upon the inserted specimen for its support.
To the above ends the present invention consists of an advertising device compris- '20 ing a base member, a panel extending upwardly therefrom, a cut out portion in the panel extending to the rear of the panel and forming an easel support adjacent to the openingformed by the cut out.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1, shows the device in perspective and showing a package inserted in the cut out.
Figure 2, shows a longitudinal sectional view taken through the panel and easel support, the package and 'the base portion being Shown in plan.
Figure 3 is a vertical section taken through the panel but showing the easel support and the package in elevation.
Similar reference characters will be employed throughout the specification and drawing to designate corresponding parts.
40 The device comprises a base portion l, and a anel 2. These two parts are formed integrallly of any suitable material, preferably of cardboard, of suiiicient thickness to satisfy the requirements in such a de vice.
It will be noted that the upright panel 2 is considerably wider than the base l and they are united by a scored or other foldable joint 3, whereby they can be angularly disposed with relation to each other.
The upright panel 2 will be cut out as indicated at 4, to receive an article of'mere chandise or a package, and of course, the
opening will be approximately the size and shape of the article to be inserted therein at any cross-section of said article.
The cut out 4 may be located at any point in lthe panel 2, but its base line 5 will be coincident with the foldable joint 3 be tween the panel 2 and the base l.
In forming the cut out 4, the cut will be made along three lines only, that is to say, that portion of the panel cut out will be left attached to the panel 2 along a line 6, extending vertically, So that the portion that is cut out may be extended rearwardly at an angle-'to the panel 2 forming an easel support 7, which supports the panel 2.
Assumirrlg` that the article to be displayed is a package of pancake flour 8, it is inserted in the cut out 4, so that a portion of it extends forwardly and rearwardly of the panel 2; the forward portion resting upon the base` l, and the rear portion acting to hold the easel support? in an extended position. Of course, any suitable advertising matter or decorative motifs may appear on the face of the panel.
With the package 8 in position in the cutout of the panel, said package rests at the front of the panel upon the iiange forming the base l which base, it will be observed, is wholly at the front of the panel. It is to be noted further that at the back of the'cutout the panel is free from flanges and with the cut-out made toproduce the easel member 7 extending fully to the lower edge of the panel and to said front base fiange l. The arrangement permits of the easel member 7 contacting with the surface of the table or the like while leaving the panel 2 ata veryv slight angle so that the package 8 is positioned substantially upright al though the panel itself is tilted for the easel member 7 to constitute a firm prop.
Having described my invention, I claim:
An advertising device comprising a panel member and a base member united along a foldable line whereby the members may be disposedat an argle to each other in substantially vertical and horizontal planes respec tively, the panel member being cut out upon three lines, one line being coincident with the foldable line uniting the two members, an-
other line being parallel therewith and at 1:. and a panel support connected by a vertiv distance therefrom corresponding' to the callgT disposed foldzrble line along one of the height of the commercial package. and the vertical edges of the opening extending rear- 10 otherline joining the first two lines at one end.4 .vardly from the back of the panel and held thus forming` an opening to receive a com'- extended by Contact with the commercial merciel package of substantially the size package when inserted in Jthe opening.
and shape in cross section of said opening, MILTON RUSLING WOD.
