To all whomz't may cen/noem: f.;
Be it known that I, LOUIS BAUER, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Mounting Multigraph Plates, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled inthe art to which 1t appertains to make and use the same.
This inventionV relates to multigraph plates and particularly to means for mount ing or supporting said plates in connection with suitable supports, such for example as cylinders or drums havin a plurallty of spaced longitudinal slots w ich are substantially T-shaped in form in cross section; .and the object of the invention is to provide a simple, effective and yet strong and durable means for mounting' multigraph plates '1n connection with supports, and for retaining said plates on said supports substantially as hereinafter, described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accom` panying drawing forms a part in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in eachof the views, and in which v Fig. 1 is a transverse sectional view through a part of a cylinderpor drum showing aV plate mounted thereon with one form of my improved attaching means or devices. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the back of amultigraph plate showing la number of my improved devices mounted in l connection therewith.`
Fig. 3 is a partial section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. y Y
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the devices which I employ in the constructionV shownin Figs. 1,2 and 3.
, Fig.,5 is a sectional detail view showing a modified formof attaching device; and,
Fig. 6 is a perspective view ofanother foriu of attaching device with part of the construction shown in section. i f
In Figspl and 3 of the drawing, I have shown at 10 a drum orvcylinder, the periphery "of '.whichis provided withicii'curiiferen.- tially spaced' longitudinal slotsf'll which arey substantially T-shaped inl fo'rmin' crosss'ec! tion,- and' atl 12 I havegshown yalmult'igraph plate having a suitable projecting'printing surface v13, and in practice, I provide a number ofattaching or mounting devices 14, one of which is shown in detail in' Fig. 4` of the drawing for mounting'and supporting `the plate 12 upon the periphery of the cylinder i' 10 as shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of lthe'dra'wi-ng.
The attaching device 14V is in the form of a'brad and is composed of a stripcf sheet metal fashioned to yform-'an velongated`,1nar.
IOW Crosshead 15a and @Shank 16 `extending at ri ht angles from the' central face of the cross ead 15, and'twist'ed as 'shown at 17 to extend the flat'faces thereofin a `plane longitudinally with the plane'of the crosshead,
and thev shank 16 is c omposedofy separate memberswhch are adapted to be'parted' and folded laterally'to form retaining flanges 18.
In carrying vmy invention into effect and in the use and application ofthe attaching device 14, the plate 12 shown in Fig. 2A-'of l the drawing is yprovided with 'two sets of elongated apertures 19, each'set of apertures being arranged in common longitudinal alinement on the plate v12 and being located in such' manner as to :not interfere with the type faces 13 of the plate, and in attaching the devices 14 to the plate,two ofzthese devices are placed in one ofthe recesses 11'in the cylinder 10, and the other two in another `recess,it being understoodthat the separate sets of apertures 19v are cut inthe plate 12 to register -withlthe Vrecesses 11 above referred to, after which the Shanks 16, being folded, are passed through the apertures19 and the plate 12 isplaced upon the cylinder 10 after which the Shanks 16 are bent'to form the anges 18 and if desired a metalsolder or the like 20 is vapplied-to the platearound l the flanges 18 to retain the same in position.
In the above operation, it lwill beunderstood that vthe, crossheads 15k of the devices 14 are placed in the T-shapedfrece'sses 11 and said crossheads extendulongitudinally of said recesses. r 'i 'l at right angles to the remainder 01EY the ing brought together and depending from shank in securing the body to a printing the central portion of the crosshead to form x0 plate. a' shank, and said. shank being twisted` at 6. A mounting device of the class deri ht angles adjacent lto the orosshead. Y 5 scribed formed from a strip of sheet metal, n testimony that I claim the foregoing the central portion of which is fashioned as my invention I have signed my 'name to form a, crosshead of two-ply thickness, this 12th day of March, 1923. and the free end portions of said strip be- LOUISv BAUER. t
