Toallfwhomz'tmay concern: I
Be it known that ll, 'WALDEMAR Kors, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an lmprovement in Apparel Garments, of which the following is a specification.
'llhis invention relates to an apparel'gargarment which is adapted in use to be Worn next to the body. The 'object of the invention is the provision of a garment made as a unitary structure to serve the combined purposes of a corset, brassire, and an under vest, and may also be so constructed as to include with these garments an underdrawers. rll`he garment made in accordance with the present invention is particularly adapted -or use by1` young or athletic women.
lln carrying out the invention the garment made in accordance therewith is preferably constructed of a material having suiiicient elasticity to cause the garment to cling and conform to the body to permit oli all conceivable movements thereof, and the front portion oit the garment is preferably so constructed as to be less yielding than the other portions thereof in order to lend support to the underlying portions of the body ci the 3@ wearer, this front section being formed by overlapping members or a reinforcing mem ber or otherwise. The upper central portion of the front section is also 'preferably di vided and provided with means for securing the divided portionsto one another in order to enable the user to get into and out of the garment more readily than if such a pro- 'vision were not made. 'llhe garment may also be provided with detachable hose supporters which may thus be removed therefrom in order not to injure the hose supporters or the elastic fabric of which the same are composed in laundering the garment. Y
lln the drawing:
lllig. 1 is a perspective view illustrating t-he use of one form of my invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged front elevation ot.
the form of garment shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view illustrating the use of another form et the garment made in accordance with my inventlon.
Fig. l is a front elevation on an enlarged scale of the garment shown inlFig. 3, and
Fig. 5 is a section on line 5-5, Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing and particularly to Figs. 1 and 2, the garment, as will be seen, preferably comprises front members indicated at 10 and 11 respectively, together with back members 12 and 13. rlhe back members 12 and 13 are connected along the line 14 by a suitable seam or line of stitching, while the front member 10 and the back ment and' more particularly to an apparel member 12 are connected at- 'the side of the garment along a suitable seam 15,? and Similarl. the front 'member 11 and the back mem er 13 are secured to each other along the side of the arment b a suitable seam or line of stitching 16. he front member 11 is provided with an extension 17 and the front member lO'with a similar extension 18. rlhe extension 17 is connected to' the front member 11 by a seam or line of stitching 19, and similarly the extension 18 is connected to the front member y10 along a seam or line et stitching 20. The extension 17 at its upper end terminates in the shoulder strap 21 which is connectedl to a shoulder strap 22 extending from the back member 18l as indicated at 23. ln the same manner the front extension 18 terminates at its upper end in a shoulder strap 2a which is connected to a shoulder strap 25 extending from the back member 12 as indicated at 26.
.A portion of the front extension 18 overlaps a portion of the front extension 17, and the edge of the l'ront extension 18 is connected to the front member 11 and the extension 17 along the same seam or line stitching that connects the front member 11 and its extension 17, this connection extending from the llower edge of the garment upwardly to a point indicated at 27 from which to the top of the garment the front extension 18 is free. imilarly the edge of the front extension 17 is connected to the -front member 10 and the extension 18 in the same seam or line ot'- stitchin 20 that connects the front member 10 and its extensionl 18, this connection extendin from the lower edge of the garment upwardly to a point indicated at 28 which corresponds in position tov the point 27 so that the upper portion of the front extension 17 above the point l28 is free from other parts of the garment. 1t will therefore be understood that there are overlying parts in the front of the garment extending from the lower edge thereof to the points 27 and28, the outer part of this section forming a por- A tion of the extension 18 and the inner part.
rig. 2 are indicated at 29 and 30 respectively, 29 being the lower edge of the extension 17 which conforms to the lower edge of the other parts of the garment, while the lower edge 30 of the extension 18 is preferably spaced appreciably from the edge 29.
- The lower edge of the front extension 18 iii may -have secured thereto hose supporter straps 31, and similarly at the sides of the garment l may employ hosev supporter straps 32 and 33. Furthermore as illustrated in Fig. 2 the upper edges of the front extensions 17 and 18 may be provided with a cord or lace 34 passed through eyelets provided therefor in order to draw these parts of the garment to position after the same has lbeen placed on the body of the wearer. In this garment, as will now be understood, all the parts being made of the same fabric will cling to the body of the wearer and conform thereto and permit movements thereof'to the same extent, with the exception of the central front section which is composed of the overlying portions of the fabric in which there will not be the same elasticity as in other parts of the garment so that this front central section tends to lend a support to the underlying parts of the body of the wearer. The garment thus constructed, as will be understood, performs the function of a brassire, a corset and an under vest.
By reference to Figs. 3 and 4'of the drawing, -it will be seen that vthe construction of the front members 37 and 38 is similar to that in the other form of the invention, with the exception of the manner in which they are formed at the top thereof. In this form of the garment the front sections 37 and 38 are connected to a front central section 4 0 along the seams or lines of stitching indicated at 39, this central section 40 extending from the lower edge to the upper edge of the garment and in the upper portion thereof being divided as indicated at 41 and fitted with a binding or reinforcement 42 having eyelets therein to receive laces 44 by which the upper portion of the garment 1s adjusted to position on the wearer. The front central section of the garment also includes an inner reinforcing member 45 which extends fromv approximately the line 46 to the lower edge of the garment and is connected in the same seams or lines of stitching 39 by which the front members are connected to the outer front section 40. This obviously has the same effect as the overlying front extensions as illustrated in the first form of the invention and tends to make this portion of the gar` ment less elastic `than the other portions aaa/acera `thereof therebyv lending a support ,to the underlying parts of the body of the wearer. ln this form of the garment the back sections are indicated at 47 and 48 and are connected by shoulder straps 49 and 50 to the front vportions of the garment as clearly shown in Fig. 4 or in any other suitable manner. vFurthermore in this form of the invention the lower portions thereof may be provided with tapes-51 secured at one end to the garment and provided. at the other'with a buttonv hole to be looped and connected to a button 52 or otherwise secured in place for cooperating with a buckle 53 attached 'to the usual hose supporter strap. v l
ln the use of all the forms of the invention the arment performsthe functions, as hereinbe ore stated, of a corset,.a brassire and under vest, and in allforms of the invention the front central section of the garment is so constructed as to be materially less yielding than the other portions ofthe garment to form a support for the underl-yparts of the body of theY wearer, particu.
larly when in a standing` position when the tension is applied to the front hose supporters and thus transmitted'l to this front central section of the garment.
I claim as my invention:
