' Be it known that I ANTONIO MUzzI, industrial, a subject of the Kingof Ital and residing at 31 `Via XX Settembre, n enoa, Italy, and I', Goulaine Bison-nvr, industrial, a subject of the King of Italy, and residing at 31 Via XX Settembre, Genoa, Italy, and I, LUIGI VINGINA, industrial, a subject of the King of Italy, and residing at 31 Via XX Settembre, Genoa, Italy, have invented cerytain new and useful Improvements in Revide a tent frame of two separable folding' sections, the upper `one being substantially the same as the frame of an ordinary umn brella, and the lower one being in the nature of an inverted umbrella frame.

A still further object is to furnish a folding tent frame with a foldable seat adapted to surround the tent pole when the tent is assembled.

Another object is to provide a readily foldable tent of simple and inexpensive construction, which may be readily assembled or taken apart by an unskilled person.

With the foregoing objects outlined and with other obj ects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention` consists in the novel features hereinafter described in detail, illustrated in the accom panying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing:

Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the upper portion of the improved tent.

Fig. 2 is a similar view of the lower portion.

Fig. 3 is a plan View of the lower portion in open or extended position, and

Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view of the lower portion in folded position.

In the drawing, 1 designates the frame of the upper portion of the tent. This frame is similar to the frame of an ordinary umbrella and the ends of its ribs are provided with hooks 2 from which the material forming the side walls 3 of the tent may be suspended. The staff 6 of, the upper portion is adapted to detachably engage the staff 6a of the lower portion. The lower portion is in the nature of an inverted umbrella frame and the lower end of the staff 6'Ll is pivotally connected at 5 to base ribs 4, which are prefyerably arranged at 90o relatively to one another as shown in Fig. 3. The ribs 4 are provided intermediate their ends with fixed iittings 10 pivotally'connected by links 12 to a sleeve 7 which is slidably mounted on the staff 6a. This sleeve may be xedin its lower position by means of a pin 8. parts are in the position shown in lFigure 2, the raising of the sleeve 7 will cause the links 12 to swing the ribs 4 about their pivots 5 in order to bring said ribs 4 into positions substantially parallel with the staff 6* as shown in Fig. 4. In this condition the lower portion of the frame is folded andv may be readily packed in a small space or carried by a person.

The' lower edge of the wall 3 may be'connec-ted to loops or rings 9 arranged at the outer ends of the ribs 4.

In order to reinforce the staff 6a, hold the When the ribs 4 in horizontal position and provide f seats for the occupants of the tent, rods 11 have their lower ends pivotally connected to the members 10, and the upper ends of said rods are provided with balls 14 to support a seat 15 of flexible material, such as canvas and the like. The rods 11 are connected to links 13 which have their inner ends connected to a sleeve 16 that is slidably mounted on the staff 6a. When the sleeve 16 is in the position shown in Fig. 2, it will hold the links in substantially horizontal position and these links will prevent the rods 11 from swinging toward the stal 6a. When the lower part of the tent frame is folded, the sleeve 16 will slide downwardly while the sleeve 7 is moving up- `wardly, so that the links 13 and rods 11 and it is apparent that changes may be made f in the details illustrated without departing from the spirit of the invention as expreed in the claims.

What is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patentis:

l. A folding tent frame having a stati provided at its lower end with ribs connected to the staff and capable of movement into positions substantially parallel to the shattor perpendicular to the shaft, and means connected to the staff for holding said ribs in either position.

y 2. A tent frame as claimed in claim l in which the ribs are pivotally connected to the staff, and in which the means for holding the ribs in either of their positions includes links connected to the ribs and to the staff.

3. A tent frame as claimed in claim l' in which the means for holding the ribs in either of their positions consists of a sleeve slidably mounted on said staff, and means connecting the sleeve to said ribs.

4. A tent frame as claimed in claim l including a fold-able seat frame connecter, to said stall and ribs and foldable with the ribs, and a seat bottom supported by said seat frame.

5. A. tent frame as claimed in claim l including rods pivotally connected to said ribs, a sleeve slidably mounted on the staff, and links connecting said sleeve to said rods, and a seat supported by said rods.

6. A tent frame including an upper' portion of the same construction as an ordinary umbrella frame, a lower portion supporting the upper portion and including a staff, base ribs pivotally connected to the stati and movable into positions perpendicular to said shaft or substantially parallel t0 said shaft, and links connecting the staff and ribs and adapted to hold said ribs in positions perpendicular to the staf.

7. A tent including a folding upper section provided with a stall, a folding lower section provided with a staff and base ribs arranged at right angles to the staff of the lower section, and means for detachably connecting the staff of the upper section to the stall of the lower section. Y

A tent including` a lower staff, base ribs pivotally connected to the lower statt and adapted to extend substantially perpendicular to said sta, a sleeve slidably mounted on said stall, links connecting said sleeve to said ribs, rods having their lower ends pivotally connected to said ribs, a second sleeve mounted on said staff, links connecting the second sleeve to said rods, a seat supported by the upper ends of said rods, an upper stall detachably connected to the lower staff, an umbrella top connected to the upper staff, anda wall suspended from the edge ofthe umbrella top and connected to the outer ends of said ribs.
