To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I; FRANK HonN 'oIs'r, a citizenof the United States, residing at Mount Jewett, in the countyof McKean and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Vehicles; and I 'do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled 1n the art to which 1t apperta ins to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved toy vehicle of the scooter type' and one object of the invention is to provide a toy vehicle of the class described so constructed that the child occupying the same may either sit upon the platform and propel the vehicle with his feet engaging the ground or may stand upon a step beneath and extending to the rear of the platform and with one foot propel the vehicle.
Another object of the invention is to provide a toy vehicle in which the rear portion will be very strongly braced and thus permit it to support the weight of the occupant in a very efficient manner.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved type of steering post journalled in the forward end portion of the platform, this post being formed in upper and lower sections which fit one within the other and are releasably held in engagement so that they may be taken apart when desired.

The steering post is provided with an upper shaft section 8 and lower section 9 having fork extensions 10 between which the forward ground engaging wheel 11 is rotatably mounted. This fork section 10 is bored from its upper end to provide a socket 12 and is provided with a reduced upper end portion 13 which fits into a sleeve 14-. This sleeve 14 has a reduced'upper end portion which fits into an opening 15 formed in the platform and it will thus be seen that the sleeve will be provided with a shoulder intermediate its length upon which the platform 7 ill rest and that the lower fork section 9 will also be provided with a shoulder against which the lower end of the sleeve 1& will rest. The upper shaft section 8 which carries the turning handle16 has a reduced lower portion upon which will be mounted a collar 1'? which fits into a seat 18 cut from the upper face of the platform.
This collar has a reduced lower end portion.

The reduced end portion of the shaft sec tion 8 extends down into the socket 12 and when in place a securing pin 20 is, passed through the lower fork section and lower end portion of the shaft thus securely but releasably holding the upper shaft and lower fork section together, and causing the fork section to be turned for guiding when the upper shaft section is rotated by means of the handle 16.
When this toy vehicle is in use, the child using the same will sit upon the platform with his feet engaging the ground'and by '2 and 1 and to furare rotatably pedaling with hisfeet can propel the vehicle forwardly or rearwardly. By turning the steering post through the medium of the handle, the vehicle can be guided in the de sired direction. If desired, the child can stand upon the rear platform or step 3 and can propel the vehicle with one foot engaging the ground. It will thus be seen that the Vehicle can be used either by standing upon the rear step or sitting upon the'plat form. It will be further noted that this vehicle is so constructed that the rear "portion which carries the major portion of the weight will be very strongly braced. It will also be noted that the steering post is firmly braced and relieved from a great deal of strain and can be turned very easily.
I claim:
1. A steerable toy vehicle comprising a platform, supporting bars secured to the under face of the platform and extending downwardly and reawardly therefrom, a transversely extending bolster secured to the under face of the rear end portion of said platform andsupported upon said bars and having its lower portion extending between and secured to said bars, a step secured to and extending below the'rear end portions of said bars and with a surface between the bars, and rotatable ground engaging supporting means for the rear portion of said vehicle.
2. A toy vehicle including a platform, and supporting means for the rear portion of the vehicle comprising supporting bars secured to the underface ofthe platform and extending downwardly and rearwardly therefrom in diverging relation and beyond the rear end of the platform, a transversely extending bolster secured to the underface of the platform above the rearwardly extending portions of the supporting bars and having its side portions supported upon the upper edges of the supporting bars and its lower end portion extending between the supporting bars, a step extending rearwardly between the bolster and the rear ends of the supporting bars and having its side portions extending beyond the side bars, and ground-engaging elements connected with the extended side portions of the step.
