aeeaeea To all whom it may concern:
Be. it known that 1, WILLIAM F. LEONARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Toy Vehicles, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates more particularly to vehicles for the use of small children in which propulsion is effected by pushing with the feet on the ground and has for one of its objects to so construct the device that it can be adjusted to adapt the vehicle for the use of the smallest children and at the same time permit the use of sufficiently large wheels to. render the operation of the vehicle easy.
Another object of the invention is to provide simplified means for adjusting the seat so that the device can be used by children of considerably varying size or so as to be useful to the same child as it grows larger.
Afurther, object is to so construct the de vice that it can be propelled by the rider in either the standing or sitting position, thus also enabling the rider to give momentum to the vehicle before occupying the seat.
And still another object is to provide improved means for journaling the steering post.
v The invention is embodied in the example herein shown and described, the features of novelty being finally claimed.

In the views 5 designates the single steering wheel which is journaled in a fork on the lower end of a steering post 6 having a suitable handle 6 at its upper end.

swiveled between a said bar forming the seat support. At its forward end the reach 10 is securedby means of bolts 11 between the blocks 9, and at its rear end the reach is rabbeted and grooved to fit against the lower side of the metallic axle and the supplementary wooden foot piece 8 where it is held by a metallic strap 12 that is secured to the reach and bent at its ends around the end of the wooden foot piece 8". The metallic axle 8 passes through a hole in the strap 12 where the latter passes around each end of the wooden foot piece.
At their forward ends the blocks 9 are connected by a threaded bolt 13 having a nut 13 whichcan be tightened or loosened to compensate for swelling or contraction of the post due to dampness or dryness and permit the free turning of the steering post without wabbling.
14 designates the seatwhich is provided with a double or two-part stem '15 and 15 inclined forward to the plane of the seat to straddle the reach, the part 15 being provided with a series of parallel grooves 16 any of which receives the cross piece of a yoke 17. The legs of the yokel? are threaded and passed through the inclined reach to receive an appropriately perforated strap 18 and securing nuts 19. By sufii ciently loosening the nuts 19 and shoving the yoke transversely of the reach the seat may be raised or lowered and again secured that the wheels be comparatively large. t will be observed that with my construction,
which includes the inclinedreach mounted above the forward axle and under the rear axle, it is practical to use comparatively large-wheels and yetplace the seat low so that a small child or baby can propel himself with his feet on the ground or floor while seated in the seat. By making the seat adjustable the device is adapted vto the child as it grows larger; and moreover it is not necessary for the dealer to carry several sizes in stock so as to supply large and small children.
The forms of the parts can be changed without departing from the gist of the invention as claimed.
What I claim is:
1. A childs toy vehicle comprising, in combination, rear supporting wheels and axle, a front steering wheel and steering post therefor, a reach or seat support extending from above the front wheel to the axle of the rear wheels, a seat having a stem aflixed thereto and extending downwardly and forwardly therefrom at an acute angle to the plane of the seat and at an acute angleto the line of the steering post and means adjustably connecting said stem to the reach permitting the raising and lowering of the seat with reference to the reach and causing said seat to approach the steering post when lowered and recede from said steering post when raised.
2. A childs toy vehicle comprising, in combination, rear supporting wheels and axle, a front steering wheel, a reach or seat support extending from above the front wheel to the axle of the rear Wheels, a seat having a stem for adjustable connection with said reach and means for securing said stem to said reach in adjusted position consisting of a movable yoke engaging both the stem and the reach and means for securing said yoke to said stem and reach.
