Description

' April 17,1928.
1,666,827 K. s. MCFARLAN I SCOOTER Filed Jan. 5, 192'? 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 INVENTOR WITNESSW 2 ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 17, 1928.
6-.orrrea a ciate" .Appltcati on filed January This invention relates to toy vehicles of the type commonly known as scooters and which are propelled by one foot of the rider while the other foot and leg rests upon the scooter.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a scooter having a frame of novel construction upon which is adjustably mounted a knee rest, so that the rest may be regulated to suit the convenience of the user and provide a maximum amount of comfort.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of a toy vehicle or scooter constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Figure 3 is a front elevation.
Figure 4 is an enlarged section taken onthe line 4:4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary section taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the scooter is shown as comprising upper and lower frames made of any suitable material. The lower frame includes spaced parallel side bars 10 which converge at their front ends as indicated at 11 and the upper frame also includes spaced parallel side bars 12, which converge at their front ends as indicated at 13. The rear ends I bars 10 and upper bars 12 are connected to one another by means of upwardly and inwardly inclined substantially V-shaped brackets or braces 17 so that a rigid relatively light frame is provided.
The front converging ends 11 and 13 of the lower and upper frames are connected by a steering post 18, the connections being indicated at 19. This steering post has ex-.
tending therefrom a steering rod 18 whose lower end carries forks 20 and journaled between these forks is a front steering wheel 21. The upper end of the steering rod has connected thereto a hand steering wheel 22 by means of which the direction oftravel of the scooter may be controlled.
Extending downwardly from the side bars 10 near the rear ends thereof are bearing brackets 23 to which is secured as indicated at 24:, an axle 25. Supporting wheels 26 are mounted at each end ofthe axle.
While the frame is shown as being made of cross sectional rectangular material, it is obvious that any other suitable material may be substituted, for example, piping.
Mounted upon the bars 12 is a latform 26 and slidably engaging this plat orm is a knee rest 27. The rest27 has an opening therein for the passage of a pin 28 and the latter is adapted to be placed in any one of a number of spaced openings 29 provided in the platform. A knee rest 27 may thus he slid along the platform to obtain the desired position and held against movement by means of a pin 28.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herei knee rest slidably and adjustably supported 6 rest in adjusted position.
' 2. In a toy vehicle, a lower frame, wheels supporting the rear end thereof, an upper frame having its rearend secured to the rear end of the lower frame, a steering post connecting the front ends of the lower and by the frame and means to hold the knee upper frames, a steering wheel, a platform mounted upon the upper frame, a knee rest adjustable upon the platform and means to secure the knee rest in place.
3. In a toyvehicle, a lower frame, wheels supporting the rear end thereof, an upper frame having its rear end secured to the 'rear end of the lower frame, a steering post connecting the front ends of the lower and upper frames, a steering wheel, a platform mounted upon the upper frame, a knee rest having a longitudinal sliding engagement with the platform and means to hold the knee rest against movement.
lltl
4. In a toy .vehicle, a lower frame including spaced parallel side bars converging at their front ends, an upper frame also including spaced parallel side bars converging at their front ends, inclined members extending from the rear ends of the upper side bars and connected to the rear ends of the lower side bars, braces between the upper and lower frames, at steeringpost connecting the converging ends of the upper and lower 10 frames, a steering wheel, rear supporting wheelsand a knee rest supported by the upper frame.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature i KENNETH s. MoFARLAN.
