TOY VEHICLE.

My: invention relates to improvements in toy vehicles. I
One of he ob ects of my invention 1S to provide novel means for steering a vehicle.
A further object of my invention is to provide novel guard means by which the occupant of the vehicle may stand thereon without. danger of falling sidcwise therefrom.
A further object of my invention is to provide a. novel vehicle of the kind described, which is simple, cheap to make, durable. not liable to get out of order, which is easily operable by a small child, and which will afford amusement to the operator.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invention,

Fig. 4 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view through one of the hand holds and parts connected therewith.
Fig. 5 is a. vertical sectional View through the steering post and parts connected therewith.

The vehicle is provided with a base member which may comprise a horizontal board 1 to the forward end of which is attached the rear end of a fo3wardly and upwardly extending central bar 2.
A tubular steering post has its lower end fastened to the bar 2. said post being desig nated by 3, and having fastened to it a bar at to which is fastened centrally the trans verse portion 5 of a U shaped guarding and guiding member, the arms 6 of which extend horizontally rearwardly and then downwardly, their lower ends being fastened to the board 1 at the rear end thereof and at opbosite sides respectively of a notch 7 in the rear end and center of the board 1. v
The arms 6 serve as guard rails for keeping a person standing on the board 1 from falling sidewise therefrom. They further serve as guiding means for two hand holds 8. which are tubular and respectively reciprocative on the horizontal portions of the arms 6.

F or supporting the front end of the support, and also for steering the same, there is provided a carrying member which may comp-rise a stcering wheel 1 1, which is rotatably mounted on and between two arms 12 of an oscillative member 13 which is oscillatively mounted in and which, extends above the post 8. Said member 13,- above the post 3 has a square portion 1 1 which is fitted in av square holein a cross bar 15, the upper end of the member 13 being threaded and having fitted. on it a nut 16 which bears against the'cross bar 15, the latter resting on a shoulder 17 at the lower end of thesquare portion 14:.
Two rods 18 have respectively to two studs 19 provided respectively on two caps 20 with which the front ends of the hand holds 8 are respectively provided. The front ends of the rods 18 are respectively pivoted to the cross bar 15 at opposite sides of the member 13.
In operating the vehicle, the operator stands on the board 1 between the arms 6 and their rear ends pivoted grasps the'hand holds 8 with his hands.
hold. This will swing the cross bar 15 by means of the rods 18, thus turning the wheel 11 to the right by means of the member 13 and its arms 12.
To steer the vehicle to the left, the hand holds are moved in the opposite directions from that just described,
To run straight ahead, the hand holds are moved to positions in the same transverse vertical plane, thereby holding the wheel 11 in the straight ahead position.
I do not limit my invention to the structure shown and described, as many modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim is 1. In a toy vehicle, a support, for a person, having a steering post and having a U shaped guiding member fastened at its midson, having a tubular steering post and having a U shaped guiding member attached to said post and to said support, a member oscillative in and supporting said post, a cross bar fastened to said oscillative member, a steering member supporting and movable with said oscillative member, two hand holds respectively reciprocative on, the arms of said U shaped guiding member, and two rods respectively comiected at one set of ends to said handholds and connected at their other ends to said cross bar at opposite sides re spectively oi said oscillative member.
- 3. In a toy vehicle, a support, for aper son, comprising a base member, a tubular steering post on said base member, and a U shapedguard member fastened at its trans verse portion to said post and having its arms extend ng rearwardly and downwardly and fastened at their lower ends to said base,
a member oscillative in andsupporting said post, a cross bar fastened to said oscillative member, a steering supporting member mounted on said oscillative member and sup-- porting said oscillative member, two hand holds respectively reciprocative on the arms of said U shaped member, and two rods re-- spectively connected to, said hand holdsand connected to said cross bar at opposite sides respectively of said oscillative member.
