Be it known that I, FREDERICK G. MUsso, a subject of the King of Italy, and resident of. San Jose, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Camp Furniture, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates particularly to a combination table and storage cabinet.

It is the object of my invention to provide a device of the character indicated properly proportioned and constructed to be placed upon the running-board of an automobile. Further objects are to provide a device of the character indicated that may be readily converted into a table without removal from the running-board of the machine or set up as a table independently of the automobile; that is provided with suitable compartments and receptacles; that is water tight; that is so arranged that when closed the several parts provide heat insulating compartments; that will be strong, durable and highly eflicient in its practical application; and, finally, that may be locked without the necessity of entirely collapsing the structure.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 indicates the running-board of an automobile, 2 a portion of the body thereof, and 3 a portion of a door thereof.

At 4 I show a sheet metal case rectangular in form and so proportioned and constructed as to set solidly on running-board 1 and be secured thereto by any suitable means not shown. The height of the device is such that when secured in position the door 3 of the automobile will open freely thereover, and its strength is such that it may be walked upon without damage there to by persons entering or leaving the machine. The several elements and details of construction hereinafter set forth contribute to the strength of-the device.

Case 4 has an outwardly extending rib formed near its upper edge as at 5 to form a seat for cover 6 and form a substantially dust proof joint when cover 6 is closed. The edge of cover 6 is rolled over a wire as at 7 and straps 8 are mounted on the rear upper edge of case 4 to engage wire 7 and form hinges for said cover.

A pair'of hasps as 9 are mounted on the front edge of cover 6 to engage staples 10 on case 4 whereby padlocks may be used for locking the, cover in a closed position. On the rear side of case 4 are formed a plurality of pairs of vertically aligned sockets 11 adapted to receive the ends of brackets 12. When not utilized for supporting cover 6 brackets 12 are swun around fiat against the side of case 4. -imilar pairs of vertically arranged sockets as 13 are provided on the front of case 4 to receive the ends of brackets 14,/these brackets 14 being mounted on a plate 15 by sleeves as 16, and are slidable in said sleeves.

Plate 15 is preferably formed of metal and proportioned to fit snugly in case 4 as shown in Figure 4. A second removable plate 16 is also provided to form a top over case 4 when it is desired to use the case 4 itself as a part of the table top, this plate being merely a fiat member without any attachments whatever. Lugs as l7-17 are formed on the ends of case 4 to support plate 16 in the position described.

The case 4 is divided into a number of compartments 18 by divisions 19. In one end compartment is fitted a receptacle 20 provided with handles 21, this receptacle being adapted for carrying ice or liquids or substances that might injure other foods or things if broken while in transit.

This food is kept clean and dry by the construction ofthe device, and 'iskept cool in warm weather by means of the insulating air spaces formed .by the cover 6 and the two plates 15 and 16 The brackets 14, ofcourse, fold up flat against plate15 when not in use.

Lunch may be had by merely opening top 6 asshown in Figure 2, lifting out plate 15 and mountinlg brackets 14 in sockets 13, and placing plate 16 in posit-ion or laying it aside altogether, in which latter case the food is lifted out of the compartments as 'Ifso desired the case may be lifted off of the running-board 0f the machine and mounted on legs 26. The brackets 12 are now swung out into position, the cover opened to rest thereon and the plates 15 and 16 arranged as described. lieceptacle 22 may now be assembled and suspended from a treeand food placed therein.

If it is desired toleave the camp for a time the plate 15 may be moved outwardly on brackets 14 as in Figure 5, and the cover 6 closed, the vhasps 9 passing between the plate 15 and case 4: and engaging staples 10. By this construction the case'may be closed and locked without first removing plate 15 and all the articles thereon, the more valuable dishes and the food only being placed in the case.

, It is tobe understood, of course, that while I have herein shown and described one particular embodiment of my invent on, changes in form, construction and proportions may be made within the scope of the appended claims. r Y

I claim:

1. A device of the character indicated comprising a :easeadapted to be mountedupon the running-board of an automobile, a cover therefor, a shelf member of substantially the same dimensions as said cover,

3. A device of the character indicated comprising an oblong case enclosed ;on all sides, acover hinged'l'y mounted along one of its longer edges, means for supporting the same in a horizontal position when open, a

A device of the character indicated comprising an oblong case enclosed on all sides, a cover therefor, partitions arranged to form compartments therein, a receptacle capable of holding liquid and of substanti ally the same conformation as one of said compartments removably inse rtable in said compartment, and a partially screened recep-, tacle of less depth than one of saidicompart ments and having a removable door and shelves, the shelves and door being insert:v able separately in one ofsaitl compartments and together with said partially screenedreceptacle substantially filling said compartment.
