MORRIS J1. STERN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
FOOD-SERVICE CABINET.
Application filed March a, 1920. Serial No. 363,025.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Momus J. STERN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, city and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Food-Service Cabinet, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to attain a simple, neat and compact combination and arrangement of parts of portable, folding character, adz Jted for use where economy of space is a clesideratum, as in bungalows, camps, boats, automobiles, etc., and for traveling, pieknicking, automobiling, and like purposes; and to afford convenient stor age capacity and accommodation for food, etc, service utensils and accessories, and also seating means, in an essentially unitary structure,-the invention consisting in the specific association and conjunction of component parts and devices constituting the cabinet in its entirety, all as hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1, is a perspective view showing my food service cabinet opened up on three sides, and closed on the fourth side, and with the ice compartment door open;
Fig. 1, is an outline in perspective of the cabinet as closed on all sides;
Fig. 2, is a top view of the cabinet partly opened up as in Fig. 1, parts being broken away to show details of construction;
Fig. 3, is a front elevation of the cabinet,
also partly opened in the preceding figures, and also broken away in part to show details of construction,the front table leaf and front floor extension being omitted from this view.
A distinctive feature of my invention is the positioning of the ice chest or refriger ating chamber R, centrally with relation to the other compartments and parts of the cabinet. The top and back of the refrigerating chamber R, are preferably protected against heat by non-conductive material r, r, as is also the door R, of said ice compartment. It is also provided with a corrugated false bottom or ice floor r, from underneath which a drain pipe "r leads to a drip tank (Z, (Fig. 3) positioned in one of the bottom drawers 03'. Between these lower drawers 0?, d, are open end com upon a common base partments 0, a, designed more particularly for the accommodation of bottles or receptacles containing liquids which it is desired to keep at a low temperature.
On each side of the refrigerating ohamber R, open end compartments 0, c, and central bottom drawers cl, d, is arranged a vertical series of drawers 6, e, the two upper ones c, c, in each series communicating with the ice chest K, through vent openings 1;, o, shown more particularly in Fig. The drawers 6, e, are designed more particularly for the storage of perishable food,their communicating with the ice chest keeping the said compartments 6, 6, cool.
All the above named 1parts are supported and surmounted by a top board T, constituting the main portion of the cabinet table. it, t, are table side leaves attached by hinges It, h, to the main table T,---and t, t, are end leaves connected to said main table T, in like manner by hinges h, h. t t are corner leaves hinged to the end leaves it, t. The table top T, is of greater width and length than the ice chest and drawers which it covers, and is positioned upon and with relation thereto in such manner as to extend beyond the same on all sides, so that the leaves 15, t, 23 when lowered, are spaced apart from said ice chamber and drawers, as shown on the left end of each of the three figures of the accompanying drawings,the corner leaves t folding within the end leaves t.
The side and end leaves t, t, are supported in extended position, in the same plane as that of the main table T, by means of brace rods a, a, pivotally attached to the end uprights I), b, their free ends engaging with notches formed for the purpose on the under sides of the leaves 15, t. The corner leaves are held in raised, extended position by. means of pivotally supported brackets a, a, attached to either the end leaves t, as in Fig. 1, or to the side leaves t, as in Figs. 2 and 3.
To the base B, are hinged side and end floor extensions B, B to which are pivotally attached holding seats C, C, two to each of the side extensions B, and one to each of the end extensions B as shown more particularly in Fig. 1. When folded these seats G, C, admit of the turning up occupying the spaces between the ice chest and drawers and the npturned base extensions B, B as illustrated on the left side of each of the views. Any suitable means may be provided for holding the side leaves t, t of the table T, and the floor extensions B, 33 in closed relationship, as in Fig. 1 (indicated therein by catches c, 0) as may be found most expedient.
l/Vhen thus inclosed the cabinet and its contents maybe conveniently stowed away in a relatively small space as compared with that occupied by it when opened up for use, therebyadapting it for economic storage and transportation. 0n the other hand, its capacity for the cold storage of food and drink is relatively large in proportion to the areaoccupied by it when closed, because practically all available space under thetable top T, is utilized for the purpose; whereas when extended for service it is capable of seating and accommodating six persons. 7 r
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A compartment, a top board therefor, side and end leaves hinged thereto, member. hinged to the base of said compartment, and chairs hinged to said members and foldable with the latter parallel with the sides and ends of the compartment, the free edges of said leaves and members abutting each other when in closed position.
2. A compartment, a. top board therefor, side and end leaves hinged thereto, members hinged to the base of said eon1partment, and chairs hinged to said members and foldable with the latter parallel with the sides and ends of the eompmtment, the chairs being foldable flat against said members and said members and leaves i'oldable in opposite directions to extend in the same plane.
