Description
Dec. 18 1923.
E. c. BOSTWICK BRUSH CLAMP Filed May 12, 1921 Patented Dec. 1%, i923.
uni
EDWARD G. BOSTWICK, OF LAURIUM, MICHIGAN.
BRUSH CLALIP.
Application filed May 12,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD C. Bosrwron,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Laurium, in the county of Houghton and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brush Clamps, of which the following a specification, reference being had therein to the ac companying drawing.
My invention relates to brush-clamps, and
the like, for holding brushes, mops, or analogous articles, where it is desired to have the same detachable, so that difi'erent kinds of cleaning devices may be used on the same,
i and thus enable the user of the brush to substitute any kind he may desire, or should the brush need renewing.
The object of the device is to so construct the same that it will have but few parts,
that said parts may be easily and cheaply manufactured separately, and it can thus be repaired or renewed with little difliculty.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like symbols of reference represent corresponding parts in the several views Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device;
Figure 2 an end elevation;
Figure 3 is a vertical section, through the center of Figure 1; and,
Figure 4 a sectional end view.
In the drawings, the numeral 6 denotes a sleeve or tubular member having a stationary aw 15 formed thereon; and 7 is a movable aw to act in conjunction with the etationary jaw. 14: are grooves in the tubular member; 16 guide arms which slide in said grooves; and 8 a head for operating screws 12 which move the jaw 7.
3 is an arched piece having spaced upper and lower parallel walls, the upper wall being provided with a longitudinal slot; 5 a pin carrying part 3; and 1 the handle of the holder. 2 is a screw connected to the handle; 9 a nut for screw 2; and 10 is a metallic washer having a perforation to 1921. Serial No. 468,932.
receive the handle bolt, and having depending fingers 11 to embrace and hold nut 9 in proper position and prevent the same from turning.
4 is a set-screw to lock pin 5 in the sleeve or tubular member, and enables the brush to be adjusted by manipulating the same. 13 are nut-s or heads on the end of the bolts 12 to prevent withdrawal of the same.
The operation of the device will be apparent from the foregoing description. The brush, mop or other article is clamped between jaws 7 and 15 by operating the screws 12; and by revolving the handle 1 the same may be loosened and adjusted along the arcuate piece to get any position desired.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the character described, a main member, a stationary and an adjustable jaw carried thereby, said adjustable jaw having guide arms, the main member having grooves in its sides to receive the guide arms, a screw to operate the adjustable jaw, and a handle for the device.
2. In a brush clamp, a tubular member, a fixed and an adjustable jaw carried thereby, a pin adjustably fitted in the tubular member, a member having an arcuate slot secured to said pin, and a handle adapted to be locked in selective position in the groove of said arcuate member.
3. In a device of the character described, an arcuate member havin a groove extending longitudinally thereof, a nut slidable in said groove, a handle having a threaded projection to receive the nut, a. washer on the threaded projection having depending fingers to embrace and hold the nut, and clamping means connected to the arcuate member.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
EDWARD C. BOSTWIOK.
