AMINT FFI@ BELT CLASP.
Application filed June 18, 1923. Serial No. 645,985.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN ZETLIN, a citizen ot the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt Clasps, or which the following is a speciiication.
My invention adapted to einbr port for the suspension chain of or other article.
lrey ring,
relates to loops or clasps ace a belt and furnish supa watch,
The essential objects orF my invention are security against accidental disengagement;
consists in Such tions oi" parts as tall within the scope ofparts and in such combinathe appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings which form a. part oi" Figure 1 is a front device lined to a Figure 2, a s showing the belt this specification,
elevation of my novel belt and including a chain, ide elevation of the clasp in section,
Figure 3, a section of the clasp in closed position taken on lin'e 3h?) of Figure l, and,
Figure fl, closed position.
Like ieterenc a like section of the same in e characters indicate like parts throughout the views.
In detail my novel clasp is formed from a thin strip ot resilient metal, preferably of precious metal or and is bent there Il. comprises a 1o by an intermedia plated with precious metal, from into the desired form. op having legs 7 to 8 united te bend 9. The leg 7, which constitutes the rear portion of the loop, has a forwardly directed shoulder 1l terminating in a depending integral ring 12. Upon the upper face of the shoulder is a pointed projection 13. The lower end of the front leg has a rearwardly directed curved resilient lip 14 terminating in an upwardly directed portion 15. The lip is provided with a central opening or cavity 1G. Engaged in the ring is one end of a chain 18 carrying on its end a swivel 19 adapted to receive a watch, ring, or the like.
The loop is applied to a belt 21 by pressing the former downwardly over the belt with the leg 7 in the rear thereof until the shoulder 11 is below the belt. The leg 8 is then manually pressed rearwardly whereby the lip portion 15 is caused to ride over the projection 13, and the lip to yield until the projection snaps into the cavity 16 in the position shown in Figure 3.
Obviously the width of the leg 8 may be varied and the contour thereof otherwise changed to enhance its ornamental appearance.
I claim:
A belt clasp comprising legs united by a terminal bend, a horizontal shoulder on one leg, a depending ring on the shoulder, a vertical projection on the shoulder, and a yielding lip on the other leg provided with an upturned terminal portion adapted to ride upon the projection, said lip being also provided with a cavity adapted to receive the projection.
.In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature.
BENJAMIN ZETLIN.
