DEMOUNTABLE SHADE AND CURTAIN FIXTURE.
Application filed March 9, 1922. Serial No. 542,213.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANOISZEK MLICZEK, a citizen of Poland. residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyaho-ga andState of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Demountable Shade and Curtain Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
An object of this invention is to provide a device for supporting window shades and curtain draperies that may be attached to window casings without defacing the exterior faces.
Another object is in the means provided whereby the curtain and shade members may be removed without disturbing the adjustments previously made. I
A further object provides a curtain roll bracket that can be adjusted to engage ourtain rolls of different widths.
These and other objects are attained by the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary frontelevational view of a window casing showing the fixture attached.
Figure 2 is an enlarged side elevational view of the device.
Figure 3 is a partial front view of the same.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the attaching block.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral designates a window, held in a conventional casing 11, to which is secured to the outer edges, near the top, a pair of attaching blocks 12 and 13, the same being made from a single sheet of relatively thin metal depressed at the center forming an oblong recess 14:. its bottom being pierced at suit able points by openings 15 and 16 for engaging fixture elements.
The faces of the blocks 12 and 13 are in a level plane and their bases are provided with extending elements 17 having openings 18 receptive of screws for attaching to the casing edge.
The fixture proper comprises a stamped plate 19 having a narrow extending lower tab 20, bent and shaped to engage within the lower opening 16 of the block 12.
Near the approximate center of the plate 19, is secured a stud 21, having a stem22 slidable in the narrow portion of the opening 15 and a head 23 adapted to freely enter the larger upper portion of the same,- thus providing means whereby the bracket may bereadily and securely attached to the casing blocks 12 and 13 or removed therefrom without the use of tools.
The curtain rod supports 24 and 25 are integral with the plate 19 and are twisted upon themselves at a right angle to the plane of the plate 19, the upward extending members being curved as at 26, followed by a reversely' curved terminating element 27 of lesser radius and adapted to support a horizontally disposed drapery pole 28 therein as shown in Figure 1.
Integral with the plate 19, is a bar element 29 bent at a right angle to extend inwardly adjacently across the face of the window casing '11, and a plurality of depressions 30. are provided for receiving a detent finger 31 formed on the'curtain roll carrier 32.
The projecting portions of the roll carrier 32 are of conventional type while the lower or base portions consist of angularly bent wing elements 33 and 34 formed to 'par- 1 tially enclose and slide along the bar 29.
Due to the slight spring action of the wing elements 33 and 34, the, carrier detent finger 81 may be forcedout of engagement with the depressions 30 and allow the carrier to be moved, thus providing means for adjust ing the carriers to fit any length of curtain roll within the normal range of the fixture.
It will be readily understood that the removable supporting elements, while made from the blanks having like outlines, must be subsequently formed as opposed pairs adapted to engage on the right and left hand edges of casing.
As changes in construction could be made within the scope of the invention, it is intended that all matter contained in the foregoing description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative only and not in a limitative sense.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a demountable curtain fixture, th combination with a hollow base adapted to be secured .to a window casing, locking.
means comprising a keyhole opening and a. narrow rectangular slot formed thru the face of said base, a plat-e having an ofi'set terminal prong suited to enter the last named opening, a, stud fixed in said plate to slide in the key-hole opening and havin a flanged head suited to pass thru its circu ar portion, and an arm formed with said plate for adjustably supporting shade roll brackets.
2. In a demountable curtain fixture, the combination with a hollow base adapted to be secured to a window casing, locking means comprising openings formed in the face of the base, a plate disposed over said base, a narrow prong formed at the lower end of said plate enga eable in the lower of said openings, a stud 'xed in said plate engageable in the other opening, an arm extending inwardly from said plate, said arm containing. a plurality of depressions, a shade fixture slidable on said arm, and a resilient detent carried by said fixture engageable selectively in any of the mentioned depressions. v
In witness whereof I aflix my signature.
FRANCISZEK MLICZEK.
