UNITED STATES JOHN C. WOOD, OF ALEXANDRIA, MISSOURI.
PLOW.
Application led November 3, 192,1.
To all lwhom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, J oHN C. Woon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alex andria, in the county of Clark and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Plow, of which the following is a specification.
This invention aims to provide a simple, strong and useful means whereby a plow disk may be attached to the beam of a plow, novel means being provided for adjusting the disk with respect to the surface of the soil.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
TvVith the above and other objectsl in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in side elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the invention; and Figure 2 is a transverse horizontal section.
'Ihe numeral 1 marks a plow beam, including a goose neck forming a standard 2. A pivot element 3, such as a bolt, is mounted in the lower end of the goose neck, the goose neck carrying clamping devices 4 and 5, which may be bolts, the clamping devices beng located above the pivot element 3, and the clamping device 5 being located above the clamping device 4.
A bracket 6 is provided, the same including a plate-like body 7, and a lateral flange 8, disposed in the present embodiment of the invention at an obtuse angle to the body 7. The
flange 8 has a rearwardly extended hub 9. The body 7 of the bracket 6 rests against one side of the goose neck 2 and is provided with transverse slots 10 receiving the clamping devices or bolts 4 and 5, the lower end of the 60 body 7 of the bracket being mounted to swing, for adjustment, on the pivot element 3.
Serial No. 512,526.
The numeral l1 designates a disk, backed by a plate 12 engaging the flange 8 of the bracket 6, and including a sleeve 14 journaled in the boss 9 of the bracket. A n attaching device, for instance, a bolt 15, passes through the sleeve 14, the bolt 15 having a conical head 150, cooperating with the disk 11. A washer 26 is mounted on the rear end of the bolt 15 and engages the rear end of the boss 9. A nut 27 is threaded on the bolt 15 and coacts with the washer 27. The construction is such that the disk 11 is supported for rotation on the boss 9, in the direction indicated by the arrow A. in Figure 2 of' the drawings.
The flange 8 and the disk 11 may be disposed at any desired angle with respect to the body 7 of the bracket 6. The clamping devices 4 and 5 may be loosened, and the bracket 6 may be swung for adjustment on the pivot element 3, the' clamping devices being tightened, thereby to vary the angle of the disk 11 with respect to the vertical. The device, therefore, may be adjusted to correspond with the various soil conditions.
What is claimed is l. In a device of the class described, a plow beam including a depending standard, a bracket comprising a body abutting against the side of the standard, a flange extending from the body of the bracket laterally with respect to the standard, means for mounting the body pivotally on the standard for adjustment in a direction parallel to the line of advance, means arranged transversely of the body of the bracket for securing the body in adjusted position on the standard, and a disk mounted on the flange.
2. In a device of the class described, a plow beam comprising a depending portion; a bracket comprisng a body and a flange projecting laterally from the body, the body having an elongated transverse slot; a pivot element connecting the body with the depending portion of the plow beam for adjustment in a direction parallel to the line of advance; a tightening device carried by the plow beam and engaging the body of the bracket, the tightening device being located in the slot of the body; and a disk carried by the flange of the bracket.
3. As an article of manufacture for use in mounting a soil engaging element on a p1ow In testimony that I claim the foregoing as beam, a bracket comprising a body and a latmy own, I have hereto affixed my signature eral flange having a hub located alongside in the presence of two wtesses.
