Description

UNITED STATES PATENT QFEICE.
JOHX MAXWELL, OI AMSTERDAM, NIHV YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN OILING KNITTING-MACHINE BURRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,672, dated February 17, 1874; application filed January 20,1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1', J only MAxwnLL, of Amsterdam, in the county of Montgomery and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means of Oiling Knitting Machine Burrs; and do hereby declare that the followin is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, referen cc being bad to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making apart of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a lubricating device for knittinginachine burrs, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. In order to enable others skilled in the art to'whieh my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, rct'crrin g to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a-plan view, and Fig. 2 a lon tudinal section, of my invention.
J-XIGPIQSGUES a hollow shaft or bar of any suitable dimensions, closed at both ends, and cast with a tube, B, on one side. It is also cast with an enlargement orhollow projection, a, into which is screwed the spindle G. The tube B may be screwed into the shaft A, instead of cast with it, and in the outer end of the tube is screwed a plug, 1). The spindle C is hollow and open at both ends, and filled with cotton or other suitable material, b, for conveying the oil, through apertures 00 w, to the outside of the spindle.
3r represents a knitting-machine burr, fitting over the spindle O, and provided on the outer end of 1ts hub with a pivoted slide, (1, which closes the outer end of the spindle. The hollow shaft or bar A forced through the wickin g.
\Vhen it is desired to clean out the interior of the spindle it is not necessary to remove the burr, but that may remain on the spindle. The slide (1 is turned to one side, thereby giving free access to the interior of the spindle.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, i.-:
The hollow shaft having the projection a and hollow perforated spindle O, in combination with the burr Gr, having cap (I, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of January, 1874.
J0 PIN MAXIVELL.
