Application filed September 9, 1918. Serial No. 253,202.
(GRANTED UNDER THE rnovrsrons or 'rns ACT or Manon s, 1921, 41 STAT. n, 1313.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARGUERITE NORMA Unorzmn, a citizen of the Republic of rance, residing at 30 Rue Montgrand, Marseille, France, have invented new and useful Improvements in Corsets (for which I have obtained a patent in France, l86f1'l5, application filed September 8, 191?),and of which the following is a specification. V
This invention relates to improvements in corsets, the object of the invention being to provide a corset having improved fastening means whereby pressure on the stomach and epigastric region of the wearer is avoided and which permits greater freedom of movement of the body than was heretofore possible.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features of construction and combination of parts which will be more fully described hereinafter and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The drawing accompanying and forming part of this specification is a perspective view illustrating. a preferred form of the improvedcorset with its flap in fastened condition, the dotted lines indicating the position of the flap when open.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a short busk disposed entirely below the waist portion of the corset along the front meeting edges thereof, which busk ensures the tight fitting of the corset at this portion. Along the line C. on one side of the corset is sewed a flap B of elastic fabric, preferably of double thickness, said flap being adapted to overlap the front meeting line of the two sides of the corset and pro vided along the. line D with suitable fasten- 7 ing means, such for instance as snap buttons cooperating with complementary studs carried by the corset for retaining the flap in closed position. The flap B carries between its layers of fabric a pair of flexible members E, preferably of whale bone or similar material, spaced apart, one at either side of the vertical center line of the flap,
which members ensure the required degree of rigidity in the height of the corset to prevent creasing of the upper portion thereof. The corset is cut away at each side of the buslr A, and pieces of elastic fabric F substituted for the cut out portions so as to ensure a certain degree of elasticity and adaptability to form, in proximity to the upper end of the busk.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawing, it will be seen that I have eliminated the use of the ordinary steel buslr extending approximately the entire height of the corset and which not only' caused considerable discomfort to the wearer in certain positions of the body, but in some cases was injurious to health, and have produced a corset structure which is conducive to comfort and health and at the same time is very efficient in its operation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letter's Patent of the United States of America, is V A corset having a waist portion, said corset comprising, in combination, a short busk disposed on the. lower portion of the corset, said busk being of such a length that itscupper extremity reaches a point below the waist portion only, and a flap ofreinforced elastic fabric disposed above said busk and formingthe upper fastening of the corset, said flap being provided with a plurality of pressure fasteners disposed on one of its vertical borders and said corset having cut-out portions provided with strips of elastic fabric adjacent to the upper extremity of the bush on each side of. the latter.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. I
MADAME ALEXANDRE HENRI GROIZIER,
ne MARGUERITE NORMA AZIBERT.
