Description
vIE. G. KELLEY.
Dress-Protectors;
Patented Feb. 17.1874
ATTORNEYSn V UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD e. KELLEY, 0E BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRESS-PROTECTORS Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,648, dated February 17,1874; application filed January 17, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD G. KELLEY, of Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented a new and Improved Spring Dresslrotector, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved spring dress-protector as attached to a dress 5 Fig. 2, a detail section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.
The object of my invention is to furnish for ladies walking-dresses an .improved springprotector which is neater and more durable than those hitherto in use, of smaller size, and so arr nged as to take up less dirt, and prevent thereby the soiling ot' the under-garments, carpets, floors, &c. My invention consists of a dress-protector of spiral wire of suitable thickness, bent in such shape as found most convenient for attachment and protection, and attached either directly to the trail of the dress or to a piece of cloth to be applied to the dress.
In the drawing, A represents the dress-protector, of suitable brass or other wire, which is bent in round, oval, or flattened, or other shape, extending with spiral windings and tapering ends continuously on such part of the dress as may be desired, or in separate pieces on the lower edge of the dress. It is attached either directly to the dress or to a suitable piece of cloth, which is hooked, stitched, or otherwise connected to the lower rear part of the dress.
The dirt and moisture cannot be soaked into the protector or otherwise adhere thereto, so that it will not smudge or soil the under-garments or carpet. The moist dirt dries quickly, and detaches itself readily by the stretching motion imparted to the elastic spring-protector, while its light and neat construction makes it easier and more convenient for handling and taking up the dress. It will last longer, look cleaner, and be in every respect superior to the different protectors hitherto used.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The wire dress-protector A, constructed and arranged for application to a dress, substantially in the manner described.
