Description

I M.- PLPIER'OE.
(No Model.)
Dust-Pan,
No. 226,877. Patented April 21. 1880-;
NIPETERS, PHOTO-UTKOGRAPHEK WASHINGTON n c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARY FLETCHER PIERCE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DUST-PAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,877, dated April 27, 1880.
Application filed March 18, 1880.
I PIERCE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Sufl'olk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Dust-Pan, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to construct a dust-pan with a slipper attachmentadjusted thereto, into which the foot as far as the instep can be placed and managed thereby, leaving both hands free to use the broom.
The slipper attachment is constructed so as to protect the foot from contact with the sweepin gs, said slip per-shaped attachment extending into the dust-pan to allow the foot to enter therein as far as the instep, and the sole of which, from the ball of the foot, extends outward, formin g the handle of the dust-pan and the heel-rest for the foot.
The dust-pan may be made of metal or other material.
Figure 1 represents a side view of the dustpan with an imaginary foot placed in the slipper attachment. Fig. 2 represents a front or interior view of the dust-pan with said foot within the slipper attachment.
The slipper A and A extends from the ball a of the foot represented to the toe b, beneath the dust-protector G, in which the foot is placed (No model.)
as far as the instep. The bottom B of the dust-pan is a flat surface, forming the bottom of the dust-pan proper, and the extension A of which forms the bottom of the slipper for the sole of the foot.
The ball a of the foot rests at a point immediately beneath the rear portion of the dust-- pan. The extension A forms not only a foot rest or support, but may serve as a handle.
0 is a dust-protector extending partially over the slipper toward the toe b. D and d form the side ot the dust-pan. d (1 represent the interior and back wall of the dust-pan proper.
Having fully described my invention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A dust-pan consisting of the fiat portion or bottom B, the protector O, and slipper A, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination of a dust-pan and a slipper-shaped attachment, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. In combination with a dust-pan, a footpiece extending beneath the dust-protector, substantially as and for the purpose described.
MARY FLETCHER PIERCE.
