To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY A. HALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scraping and (utting Tools. of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to scraping tools, more particularly to that type which uses a razor blade, and the main object is to pro-' vide a device having a handle which can be adjusted to any desired angle. The handle of this type, of scraper is much more convenient to use under various conditions.

Another object is to provide a scraping tool in which various types of safety razor blades, such as the so-called Gillette or Gem blades, can be used.

Still another object is to provide a scraping tool which is simple in constructiomof a minimum number of parts, and comparatively inexpensive in cost of manufacture.

These andv other objects will become apparent'in the description below, in which characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawing.

Describing the drawing in detail, the numeral 10 represents the bottom support plate which has curved ends 11. A semi'circular portion 12 extends from the lower edge of the support plate and is provided with a hole 13. A pair of spaced apart spherical headed lugs 14 project from the surface of said support plate and are preferably formed by punch and die operation.

A housing plate 15 also having curved side edges 16 and a semi-circular portion 17 has a small hole 18 formed therein, the purpose of which will be more fully hereinafter described. An upper curved portion 19 bulges outwardly from the surface of said plate 15 forming a pocket 20 therebeneath. Said curved portion 19 has a pair of'spaced apart openings 21 therein which register with the aforesaid spherical headed lugs 14 of the plate 10. A lip 22 is formed by slitting the lower part of the semi-circular portion -17 and bending the metal therebetween outwardly.

A handle member 23 provided with an enlarged end 24, and a substantially circular head 25, has a threaded hole 26 in the head end of the handle, the latter being adapted to receive the threaded stem 27 of a thumb screw 28.

A plurality of radially spaced apart holes 29 are formed concentrically about the threaded hole 26, any of said holes being engageable with the lip 22.

When using a razor blade of the Gillette type as a scraper, the spherical headed lugs 14, are utilized as'means for anchoring the said razor blade between the support plate 10 and the housing plate 15. After the razor blade 30 has been placed on the support plate 10 so that the holes in the razor blade register with the spherical headed lugs 14:, the housing plate is then aligned with the support plate 10, and the threaded stem 27 is passed thru the holes 13 and 18 and permitted to engage the threaded hole 26 in the handle head 25.

In using a different type of razor blade, such as the Gem razor blade, which is indicated by the numeral 31, the support plate is reversed so that the lugs 14 are disposed on the exposed surface of said support plate 10 and do not project between the support and housing plates, 10 and 1.5 respectively. This is necessary as no holes are provided. in the Gem razor blade and the lugs therefore cannot be used. The lower or non-cutting edge of a Gem razor blade has a double thickness of guard plate 32 at its lower end which is received and retained in the pocket 20 of said housing plate 15. Obviously as the pressure of the thumb nut 28 is increased, rigidity of the pinch grip between the members 10 and 15 are proportionately increased.

This scraping tool may also be used in the garment trade as a cutting tool for outting out ofwhole cloth, the shapes of various types of patterns.

This tool also is a very convenient utility for the holding of razor blades for resharpening.

I claim 1. A device of the class described comprising a support plate, an extension on the support plate having a hole therein, spherical lugs thereon, a housing plate adapted to be secured adjacent said support plate, an extension on said housing plate having a threaded hole, a handle member having a plurality of radially spaced holes, a thumb nut engaging the threaded hole in the housing plate and adapted to secure the handle member to the housing and support plates, said housing and support plates adapted to receive a razor blade therebetween, and means for releasably retaining said handle in any angular position with respect to said housing plate.

A device of the class described comprising a support plate having spherical headed lugsthereon, a housing plate adapted to be secured adjacent said support plate, extensions on the housing and support plates. a curved portion on said housing plate forming a pocket therebeneath, the latter adapted to receive the heavy guarded edge of a razor blade of the Gem type, a bent lip projecting from the extension of said housing plate, a handle member having a plurality of radially spaced holes therein, said lip adapted to be inserted in any of said handle holes, and a thumb screw adapted to secure the handle to the housing and support plates in any angular position.
