A. BENTKAMP POMPON Filed June 5 1922 ATTORNEY Application filed To all whom 2'2 Z-itdj/ concern:
lie it linown that l, Abuser EENEA a; citizen of the United c3 tes, residing at New York, in the county oi New York and State of New York, have invented new and use liul improvements in lfiompons, of which the following is e. specification.
This invention relates to poinpons or like ornaments and has for its primary object the provision of a. device of this character constructed so as to greatly reduce the cost of manufacture of such devices while simplifying the method and operation of assembling the components thereof, and for giving to the completed device, a symmetrical form and e. relatively lined arrangement of components that will render the device extremely ornamental, strong and durable.
With the ubove and other objects in view which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangements of parts which will hereinafter be fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
in the accompanying drawing, has been illustrated, a single and preferred form oi th invention, it being however, understood that no limitations are necessarily mode to the precise structural details therein eXhibited, but that changes, alterations and 1110flllicutions within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.
igure 1, is a plan view illustrating a. section of the foundation braid.
Figure 2, is a diagrammatic illustration showing the manner of folding the braid to form the foundation.
Figure 3, is a perspective view. or? the foundation.
Figure 4;, is at side view of the complete pompon.
in carrying the invention into practice, l: make use of a strip off braid 5, the same consisting of a medial linit mesh 6, having perallel rows of loops 7, in which are interwoven, the bristles or fibers 8. As shown in Figure l, the fibers are arranged in parallel rows. This braid constitutes the foundation neznber oil the invention and in order to complete the foundation, 1 fold a short section of the braid in a sinuous manner as shown in Figure 2. A. strip of stem forming wire is then extended along the medial point of the braid or between the bristles and by looping the wire and bindrespective rows of around the other, as shown in e foundation member is given a antialiy listed synunetricel iori wherein the br ties or fibers wil be relatively e for to be hereinafter exained. The iibers 8 are preferably formed bstunce such as geletine. however, I do not wish to limit myself in The purpose of this arrangefully i erred to presently.
e given to the foundation meiniorin shown in Figure 3, c you by associating with iernoer e tuft of feathers or feathers of the tuft are ined in the foundation incinezztreinity of the leather is a liquid adhesive and their the found tion member so as to adhere to the adjacent bristles 8.' ln some tles singly while in othient to insert thorn in in the foundation. in either case, I eineble to give to the complete poinpon, a highly ornamental appearance, while lessening the cost of manufacture of the device. 'lhe formation or the device is such tnat the operation of putting together the several components thereof, is greatly simplified and the device can be manufactured wit 1 maximum dispatch.
i s ers, l find it exped bunch rorinntion lvhile l he e orinierily stated that the in vention i int nded for use in the art of :mill linery, course do not wish to be lhnited speot. lhe structure is designed whereby may be made into the form of. leather casters or similar devices.
t fhat claimed as new iu in this 1" i. A i oinpon cc uprising a foundation member consisting of e bristle-like structure,
and a finishing tuft of feathers or the like secured to the bristles structure.
A poinpon comprising a foundzuu'on formed of a single strip of braid, said braid embodying closely associated bristles or fibers, the raid being folded on itself and provided with means to give to the foundation, a permanent form, and a or the like secured to said tuft of feathers fibers or bristles.
3.21 pompon comprising-- a foundation member having closely associated viscous fibers or bristles, a tuft of fea hers or the like secured to l1 fibers or bristles. d. A ponipon comprising a; foundation member consisting of a bristle like structure lot) arranged in strip form with the bristles separated into parallel rows, said material folded on itself and the folds being bound together so that the strip assumes a relatively permanent symmetrical formation, and a finishing tuft of feathers or the like secured by an adhesive to said bristles. V
5. A device of the character described comprising a flexible stem, a foundation member formed from a flexible strip of material provided with parallel rows of bristies, the stein being associated medially of material and associated therewith so as to bind the folds of the strip together and a tuft of feathers secured by an adhesive to said bristles.
6. A device of the character described comprising a cluster of bristles, means for holding said cluster of bristles in a fixed form, and a tuft of feathers or the like secured by an adhesive to said bristles.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
