WINDOW SCREEN.
Application led October 16, 1922. Serial No. 594,842.
To a7? whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, FREDERICK B. KIRK- NEss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Yorklyn', in the county of New Castle and State of Delaware, have invented certain newl and useful pImprovements in Window Screens; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide -an improved form of window screen frame of such construction that different portions of the upper and lower side bars may be angled with respect to each other when inserting or removing the frame, inea-ns being provided however forholding said side bars in rectilinear form when the screen is in place.
A further aim is to obtain the desired results simply by forming saw cuts in opposite sides of the upper and lower side bars of the frame, to permit the portions 'of thel bars at opposite sides of the cuts to be angled.
lVith the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accompanying drawings.
Figure l is a, side elevation of a screen constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is an upper edge view of the screen in place within a window frame,
Figure 3 is a. duplicate of Fig. 2 with the exception that it illustrates the manner of angling the upper and lower side bars when inserting or removing the screen.
Figure 4 is an enlarged upper edge view of the upper frame bar.
In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates a rectangular screen frame adapted to be received between the usual sash guiding strips 2 of a window frame and to occupy any desired portion of said frame. The top and bottom bars 3 and 4 of the frame 1, inthe form of construction here illustrated, are cut preferably near one end, so that each of said bars may be converted into an angular form as shown in Fig. 3, when inserting or removing the screen. This is preferably accomplished by providing an outer saw cut 5 in eachof the bars 3 and 4 and two saw cuts in the inner sides of said bars, jointly forming a -V-shaped cut 6, the cut 5 of each bar being opposite the apex of the V-shaped cut,
construction for, /permitting very easy installation and removal, the arrangement beingI advantageous over screen frames of the types now commonly used. 4As excellent results have been obtained from the details disclosed, they are preferably followed", ybut within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous minor changes may be made.
I cla-im:
Al window screen having the top and bottom bars of its frame Iormed with transverse cuts, each of said bars having a V-shaped cut inone side, and a single saw cut in its other side opposite the apex of the V whereby the portions of said bars at opposite sides of said cuts may bef. angled when inserting the frame, and means for holding said bars in rectilinear form when the frame is in place.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed m signature.
FREDERICK, B. KIRKNESS.
