FFEQ.
ANDREW J". WAHLQUIST, OF ROOSEVELT, UTAH.
SASH-CORD FASTENER.
Application filed May 5,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW J. l/VAHL- QUIET, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roosevelt, in the county of Duchesne, State of Utah, have invented a new and useful Sash-Cord Fastener; and I do hereby declare the following to a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to sash cord fasteners, and has for its object to provide a device of this character having spaced arms provided at their ends with prongs adapted to be forced into a side of the sash adjacent the sash cord groove and provided with an outwardly extending looped member adapted to engage a notch in the sash cord above the window sash. Also to provide a sash cord fastener in which a sash cord may be easily and quickly placed and secured.
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter. set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings l igure 1 is a perspectim view of the sash cord fastener. showing the same applied to a sash.
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view througha window frame, showing the device applied to the window sash slidably mounted therein.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 1 designates a window frame, which frame is provided with a transversely disposed bar 2, which divides the window frame opening into a main opening 3 and an auxiliary opening 4. Slidably mounted between conventional forms of stops in the. main opening 3 are window sashes 5, which sashes move vertically during a window opening or closing operation. Disposed in the window opening 4: any conventional form of transom may be placed if so desired. Connected to the sash 5 at their upper ends are sash cords 1921. Serial No. 466,933.
7, which sash cords pass over sash pulleys 8 disposed above the transom 6, thereby supporting the window sash 5 in such a man-- nor that they will counterbalance each other and be simultaneously moved when either sash is moved.
The sash cord is provided with a knot 16, which knot is forced between the spaced arms 17 of the cord fastener 18 there being preferably an extension 19 or the cord whereby the operator may easily force the knot 16 to position. The arms 20 of the cord fastener 18 terminate in right angled sharpened members 21 which are. adapted to be forced or imbedded in the sash for securing the cord fastener to the sash. If so desired the end of the portion 19 may be provided with knot 22 which may be received by the aperture 23 in the sash 5 as an additional securing means for the sash cord.
From the above it will be seen that a sash cord fastener is provided, which is simple in construction, may be easily and quickly attached to a sash and constructed in such a manner that a sash cord may be easily and quickly attached thereto or detached. It will also be seen that the fastener is formed from a single piece of material, bent to form, and consequently can be cheaply manufactured and sold.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is The combination with a window sash, of cord fastener therefor, said cord fastener being formed from a single piece of wire bent upon itself so as to form vertically disposed arms, said arms being provided with inwardly extending sharpened prongs adapted to be imbedded in the window sash, the upper ends of said armsextending inwardly, upwardly and then outwardly at a point above the window sash thereby forming clamping jaws for the reception of the sash cord.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
