tlrattsniaa UETED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HUBERI' RENARD, OF HEESTAL LEZ LIEGE. BELGIUM.
WALKING-STICK MACHINE GUN.
Application filed August 17, 1921.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HUBERT RENARD, a subject of the King of the Belgians, residing at Herstal lez Liege, Belgium, have invented a lValking-Stick Machine Gun, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in small arms and consists in what may be termed a walking-stick machine gun, having the following characteristics:
1. A hollow tube or stick proper of fiat section.
2. A magazine arranged in the stick for cartridges for a pistol of the Browning, Colt or other type.
3. A handle adapted to receive an electr1c lamp preferably suitable for flash light signalling; and
4. One end of the stick adapted to contain a bayonet.
The pistol, for example of the Browning type, without its own magazine is mounted on the stick in place of the handle of the latter, so that a magazine sliding inside the stick may enter into the butt of the pistol.
The stick provided with its handle may be used as a lamp, and whether furnished or not with its handle may be used as an emergency weapon by fitting the bayonet on the other end.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 shows the stick in elevation and partly in section.
Figure 2 shows the same stick in section, fitted with a Browning pistol in place of the handle.
Figure 3 is a Sectional elevation on a larger scale, showing the interior of the upper part of the stick, with its handle in position.
Figure 4 is similar sectional elevation, with the grip or butt of a Browning pistol indicated in dotted lines.
Figure 5 is a sectional elevation of the lower end of the stick, Figure 6 being a cross section on A--A Figure 5.
As shown in the drawings, the stick is fitted with a handle B provided internally with an electric lamp, particularly intended for flash light signalling. l y
The lens a of the lamp is fitted in the butt of the handle, whereas press but- Serial No. 493,082.
ton b of the switch of the lamp is arranged at the rear.
The handle is removable, but it is connected to the body of the stick C by a small pivoted spring actuated catch or lock 0, which penetrates a slot (Z formed in the socket c. In addition a catch f at the opposite side to the lock engages in a notch 9. By these means the handle is held firmly on the stick.
The pivoted spring catch a and the notch are provided on a sleeve it fixed to the head of the stick.
The stick proper constitutes a tube 0 of flat section in which tube a removable magazine D is fitted.
An elevating plate 2' for the cartridges 7' pressed up by a spring 70 is provided with in the magazine.
The magazine itself rests on an elevating plate Z pressed up by a spring we the magazine being normally held in position by the lock 0 which has a projection adapted to engage within a notch 92.
A bayonet 0 is normally lodged in the lower end of the stick, the tongue 0' of the bayonet acting as a point for the stick.
The bayonet is normally retained in the stick by a neck 0 adapted to receive a pivoted spring pressed catch or look P fitted in a sleeve E.
In order that the bayonet may be fixed when it is required to arm the stick, the lock P is pressed so as to disengage it from the neck when the bayonet may be withdrawn and reversed so that its tongue 0 is inserted in the sleeve E and is again locked by the lock P engaging with the neck 0 In order to mount a Browning pistol F, for example, on the stick C, the handle B is removed, the magazine D is allowed to rise until the notch g in the magazine D which limits the amount that the magazine may project above the sleeve it, is engaged by the catch or look C, and the hollow pistol grip or butt 1', is placed on the magazine which enters the space usually occupied by the ordinary magazine whereupon the pistol lock 8 falls into a notch t provided in the magazine. The pistol can then be fired in the ordinary way, but with greater accuracy as the stick forms support.
The form, details, accessories, material, dimensions and arrangement of the walklug-stick machine-gun may he variously modified without departing from the principle of the invention.
I claim:
1. In a walking stick machine-gun, the combination of a hollow tube or stick proper of fiat section, adapted to IBCGlXB removably an automatic pistol having its own magazine removed; a magazine for the pistol arranged in and extending down a portion of the hollow flat tube or stick proper; a bayonet removably contained within the lower portion of said stick proper; and pivoted spring catches arranged at the upper and lower end portions of the stick to retain respectively the pistol and the bayonet in position, substantially as described.
2. A walking stick machine-gun as claimed in claim 1 in combination with a removable handle provided with an electric lamp particularly suitable for flash light signalling said handle being engageable with the upper end of the stick proper when the pistol is removed and adapted to be retained in position by the same pring-catch as the said pistol, substantially as described.
In testimony thereof I signed hereunto my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
