To all wlwm it may concern:
v Be it known that I, Or'ro SCHAUMBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair- Waving Apparatus, of whichthe following is a specification.
This invention relates to an electrically heated hair waving apparatus, and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a simple and durable hair waver by theuse of which inexperienced persons can readily and expeditiously give to their hair a smooth wave-like shape,

To .the accomplishment of the above mentioned objects and such other objects as `may hereinafter appear, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination, and arfrangement of parts herein specifically Vdescribed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein is shown `an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations, and modifications may be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

W-shape and which is formed to provide a pair of longitudinal and parallelly extending inverted V-shaped grooves 2 on the outer face of the base, and a longitudinal V-shaped groove 4 centrally disposed on the inner face A suitable metal cover 5 engages the side walls of the base 1, as clearly shown in Figure 4, and in conjunction with the base 1 forms a completely enclosed chamber 6. comprises a core 8 of refractory material lupon which the resistance heating coil 9 is wound. -The core 8 is connected to and rigidly supported in position by the terminal block 10, which latter is ixedly clamped, as at 11, upon the rear end of the base 1 upon connect with the feed wires 14 adapted to transmit the electrical energy.
The entire inner wall of the chamber 6 is covered with suitable insulating materials 15. The arrangement of the latter andthe position of the coil 9 will permit of the base 1 intensely heating while the coil 9 is functionlng, and prevent and retard the transmission of the heat to the cover 5.
, A metallic fork consisting of two forwardly projecting tines or ,prongs 16 is plvotally connected, as at 17, by its shank along in and is fixedly secured to the bottom of the groove 4 of the base 1. The Shanks l18 and 19 are respectively provided with handles 20 and 21, at their rear ends. The prongs 16 are curved longitudinally.
The pivotal connection Yof the shank 18 with the shank 19 is such that when the handles 20 and 21 are drawn toward each other bythe hand of the'operator, a prong 16 of the fork will'be positioned to provide a 'pressure action towards and against the bottom of each of the grooves 2 of the base 1. When the-handles 20 land 21 are moved away from each other the prongs 16 will entirely clear the base 1. In otherwords, the pivotal connection 17 permits of a. scissor like motion shifting the prongs 16 into and out of engagement with'respective grooves 2 formed in the base 1.
The base, 1 and associated parts am permanent or detachable `its assembly with the cover 5. The terminals 12 of the coil 9 extend through insulated lapertures 13 in the terminal block 10 and k18, to the shank 19, which latter extends curved longitudinally, as at 22, to conform, as nearly as possible, to the mean curvature of the contour of the human head against which the device is adapted to operate. The lower edges of the side walls of the base l are flared outwardly, as at 23, to eliminate possibility of offensive sen. sations concomitant in the use of the apparatus when in contact with the head.
In practice the basel is heated for a brief period by energizing the coil 9 before applying the device to the hair. The fork member, in the open position, may be readily inserted in the hair, and by drawing handles 20 and 2l together the hair on the fork member will be engaged and forced into the grooves 2 of the now heated base l and held under pressure for a short time, thereby forming a lasting wave-like shape to the hair thus engaged, conforming to the contour of the corrugated base.
What I claim is- 1. An electric hair waving apparatus comprising a base formed with an inner V-shaped corrugation and a pair of outer corrugations disposed in parallelism and each of inverted V-shape, a heating element supported at one end from one end of the base'and extending lengthwise of the inner corrugation, and a fork element shiftable into and out 0f the outer corrugations of the base.

An electric hair waving. apparatus comprising a base formed with a V-shaped inner and a pair or inverted Vl-shaped outer corrugations, a `heating element mounted within the inner corrugation, a fork element shiftable into and out of the outer corrugations of the base, and a cover engaging the outer walls of the outer corrugations and enclosing the heating elementa 3. An electrical hair waving apparatus comprising a W-shap'ed base curved longitudinally, said base formed with a pair of longitudinal parallel grooves on its outer face and with a longitudinal groove on its inner Y face disposed centrally with respect to the said pair of grooves, a terminal block positioned at the rear end of the base and supporting a heating element at one end of the latter, said heating element extending lengthwise of said groove on the inner face of the hase, a cover mounted on the base enclosingl the heating element and adapted for clamping said terminal block on said base, a fork element including a pair of prongs said :fork shiftable to osition one of said pair of prongs into an out of each of said air of outer grooves, said pair of prongs ing curved longitudinally.-
4. An electrical hair waving apparatus comprising a W-shaped corrugated base arcuate in the direction of its length, a pair of pivotally connected elements one of said elements including a tine arcuate in the direction of its length and secured in one of the corrugations of the base, the other of said elements including a pair of tines adapted to be shifted into the other corru-v gations of the base and co-operating with the walls thereof and each arcuate in the direction of its length, and an electric heat ing element secured at one end with one end of the base and extending lengthwise of the corrugations in which a tine is secured.

An electrical hair waving apparatus comprising a W-shaped corrugated base ar cuate in the direction of its length, a pair of pivotally connected elements, one of said elements including a tine arcuate in the direction of its length and secured in one ot the corrugations of the hase, the other of said elements including a tine arcuate in the direction of its length and secured in one or the corrugations of the base, the other of said elements including a pair or tines adapted to be shifted into the other corrugations of the base and co-operating with the walls thereof and each arcuate in the direction of its length, and an electric heating element secured at one end with one end of the hase and extending lengthwise of the corrugations in which a tine is secured, and a cover enclosing that corrugation provided with the heating element and engaging the outer walls of the other corrugations.

An electrical hair waving apparatus comprising a W-shaped corrugated base arcuate in the direction of its length, a pair of pivotally connected elements, one of saidy elements including a tine arcuate in the direction of its length and secured in one of the corrugations of the base, the other of said elements including a pair of tines adapted to be shifted into the'other corrugations of the base and co-operating with the walls thereof and each arcuate in the direction of its length, and an electric heating element secured at one end with one end of the base and extending lengthwise of the corrugations in which a tine is secured, the outer walls of those corrugationsinto which said pair of tines is shifted into having the free termini thereof angularly disposed outwardly with respect to the remaining portion of said walls.
7 ..An electrical hair waving apparatus comprising a yN-shaped corrugated base arcuate in the direction of its length, a pair of pivotally connected elements, one of said elements including a tine arcuate in the direction of its length and secured in one of the corrugations of the base, the other of said elements including a tine arcuate in the direction of its length and secured in one yof the corrugations of the base, the other of said elements including a pair of tines adapted tobe shifted into the other corrugations of the base and co-operating with the walls thereof and each arcuate in the direction of its length, and an electric heating element secured at one end withpone end of the base and extending .lengthwise of the corrugations in which a tine is secured, and a cover enclosing that corrugation provided with the heating element and engaging the outer walls of the outer corrugations, and said elements further includmg oppositely disposed handles offset with respect to the pivot between said members.

An electrical hair waving apparatus comprising a base formed withv an inner and a pair of outer corrugations arranged in parallelism, a pair of fork elements pivotally connected `itogether intermediate the ends thereof and each having its rear portion constituting a handle, the forward portion of one of lsaid elements providing a tine extending in said inner groove and connected to the base, the forward portion of the other of said elements roviding a pair of tines adapted to be shifted into and out of the outer corrugations, and an electric heating element -having one end secured i with one end of the base' and extending lengthwise of said inner corrugation above the tine therein.

An electrical hair waving apparatus comprising a base formed with an inner and a air of vouter corrugations arranged in para lelism, a pair of fork elements pivotally connected together intermediate the ends thereof and each having its rear portion constituting a handle, the forward portion of one of said elements providing a tine extending in said inner groove and connected to the base, the forward portion of the other of said elements yproviding a pair of tines adapted to be shifted into and out of the-Outer corrugations, and an electric heating element having one end secured with one end of the base and extending lengthwise of said inner corrugations above the tine therein, and a cover enclosing said heating element and inner corrugation and having' its sides frictionally engaging the outer walls of said outer corrugatons whereby the cover is secured to .the base.
