Application filed September citizen of Russia, and a resident of Brocklijn, in the countir of Kings and State 0i' New Yorin hare invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fasteners for Fur Garments, oi?L which the following is a specification.

'The intention relates lo of the character employed for securing together the end portions of a tur scarf or other garment, it beinpcustomary to fashion one end ci the scart to approximately represent the head ot an animal and to so embody the clamping features therein that they imitate the jaws of said head. Broadly speaking. animal heads or heads for fur scar-is of the character indicated are very old and have long been used. lt has always been a source of considerable expense and i'en'ation to manufacturers to build up in an effectual and secure manner the animal head for the scart' and secure the clamping members therein. and the puriose of my inven tion is 'to furnish means which greatlj,7 simpliijT and lessen the expense and materially expedite the building` up ot the animal head and the securing oi the main bodj,T clamp therein. In the use oi my invention the element of sewing is greatly reduced and the customary use ot paste and glue in applying and shaping the head is entirely eliminated.

The skin portions 27, 28 forming the pocket 24 for the lower jaw may in the assembly of the parts first have the filler pie-ce 54 inserted therein and be then applied to the clamp by slipping the pocket 55 inwardly on the spring tongue a9, after which the inner end of the skin 27 will be fastened to the body of the scarf at the point a0.

The head 2l constructed as shown in Fig. l and as hereinbefore described may be quickly formed from parts ready to be assembled and without the expense and eX- cessive skill and labor at present required in the formation of animal heads on scarfs.

The more complete embodiment of my invention is that shown in Fig. l, but'many of the advantages of my invention may be realized without using all of the features represented in Fig. l, as for illustration, as I show in Fig. 2, I may omit the bottom pocket 24, the skin portions2?, 28 forming that pocket, the lower jaw filler piece 5ft and the spring tongue 49, and these lower jaw parts being omitted, I have the animal head shown in Fig. 2 which possesses all the other parts of Fig. l and is complete, efiicient and attractive. I therefore number Fig. 2 correspondingly with Fig. l since the description of Fig. 2 would be identical with that of Fig. l as to all the parts shown in Fig. 2. For light scarfs and small heads the construction shown in Fig. 2 is entirely sutilcient, the lower cap member then forming the bottom of the lower jaw. For larger heads requiring for appearance, a fur covered lower jaw, I recommend the entire construction shown in Fig. 1, which differs from F ig. 2 only in the omission from Fig. 2 of the fur covered lower liaw.

In the modified construction shown in Fig. I insert in the pocket 23 formed between the outer fur skin 25 and inner skin 26, a headpiece 6l having a base 62, cross-bar 63 and longitudinal bridge 6a corresponding with the parts of the head-piece 29 shown in Figs. 6 and '7. The head-piece 6l is the same as the head-piece 29, except that I omit from the head-piece 6l the pocket 33 present on the head-piece 29; and in said modified construction the spring 65. which is a substitute for the spring 86, carries at its forward end a forwardly tapered plate 66 which clamps the skin portion 26 against the cap il for the upper clamp-jaw 38. In all other respects the construction shown in Fig. B is the same as that shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 shows the spring 65 and its plate 66, ywhich directlyI clamps the skin "26 against iiD the cap 4l instead of doing so, as in Figs. l and 2, indirectly through the pocket 33 forming part' of the head-piece 29. The clamping spring is riveted to the handle '37 ofthe clamp 39, the same as is the spring 36. I present Figs. 3 and 5 as indicating that my invention may not be evaded by the omission of the pocket 33 from the inserted head-piece and the clamping of the skin 26 down by the direct action of the clamping spring secured to the main clamp 89.

I am aware also of other modifications of my invention involving changes in the form and rearrangements of the clamping parts and therefore I do net wish to be limited to the specific embodiments of the invention shown nor otherwise than the appended claims and the prior art may require.

llVha-t I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

A. ela-mp fastener of animal-head type forI fur garments comprising a main body spring clamp having opposite pivoted to gather members affording clamping jaws and handles thereon, a preparatory pocket formed in the skin above the upper clamp` ing jaw, said pocket comprising the outer fur part and a lower plysecured along its edges thereto.. a shaping head-piece insertible endwise yinto said pocket and an auxiliary spring clamp secured to said body clamp and entering said pocket and acting to bind downwardly against the lower ply thereof, the main upper clamping jaw beinn below said lower ply.

2. .fr clamp fastener' of animal-head type for fur garments comprising a main body spring` clamp having opposite pivoted together members affording clamping jaws and handles thereon, a preparatory pocket formed in the skin above the upper clamping jaw, said pocket comprising the outer fur part and a lower ply secured along its edges thereto, a shaping head-piece insertible endwise into said pocket having a longitudinally extending' pocket and an auxiliary securing spring clamp secured to said body clamp and entered within the pocket of and positioning said head-piece and also binding the same downwardly against said lower ply, the main vupper clamping jaw being below said lower ply.
