Application filed June 27, 1922. Serial No. 571,233.
To all 10. 1am it may concern:
Be it known that l, FREDERICK H. Mix, a itizen of the United States, residing in Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Cases, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an improvement in display cases adapted to contain and disilay packages of goods for sale.
The object of the invention is to produce board or simllar'materlal and is formed so as to com arise two verticall 'arran ed comn ili'lPlOVGCl display case having provision or displaying the goods on sale in a'more leasing and attractive manner, and having revision whereby the article sold may be eadily removed from the case. Pro-vision s also made for such advertising matter as t is desired to display in connection with he goods on exhibition or on sale. The display case of the present invention is particularly adapted for displaying and exhibiting cylindrical articles, such as cylindrical wooden boxes. It has been proposed hereto- F tore to provide display cases for exhibiting cylindrical articles, but, so far as is known, no satisfactory display case for cylindrical articles, such as wooden boxes for containing leads for automatic pencils, is on the mark t today. These boxes as now sold are commonly put up in a rectangular box. By means 01" the display case of the present in vention these cylindrical boxes are conveniently held and exhibited so as to attract the attention or" customers. The invention consists in the improved display case hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The preferred form of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the improved display case, showing one compartment empty and the other partly filled with goods; Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken through one of the compartments; Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken across the compartments; and Fig. 4 is a plan of the blank from which the compartments are formed.
The improved display case, as shown in the drawings, comprises a display surface or card 5 preferably of rectangular shape and which may be composed of cardboard or similar material. Mounted on the card 5 is a box 6 for containing the cylindrical articles exhibited for sale.' The card 5 is of such size that ample space is provided on one or more or on all sides of the box 6 for advertising or display matter to attract customers. The display case may be hung on the wall, and for this purpose a hole 7 is provided in the top end of the card 5, or the rear side of the card 5 may be provided with an easel so as to support the display case in an inclined position on the counter or show case.
The box 6 is preferably composed of cardpartments 9 and 10, the upper part of which is separated by a partition 11. .The blank from which the box 6 is formed is shown in Fig. 4. When the blanlris stamped out, the open spaces or' windows 12 are out through so as to display the articles containedin the compartments 9 andlO. The
The goods to be placed on sale or on exhibition are inserted in the compartments 9 and 10 through the upper open ends thereof. Inasmuch as the cylindrical articles are adapted to be contained in the compartments in a horizontal position and to rest one on top of another, a relatively large number of articles can be contained in the compartments. The openings or windows 12 are of such size as to leave only a narrow strip of material along the top' and side edges of the compartments for holding the articles in place. This construction exposes a rela tively large part of each article to view and facilitates the removal Vof'the articles from,
the box. When the compartments 9 and 10 r are full, the uppermost articles will be removed through theupper open ends of the compartments, but when a number of articles have been sold, the remaining articles may be displaced obliquely and removed through the openings or windows 12.
Having thus'des'c'ribed the invention what I claim as new is v i 1. A display case comprising a card con. semena display surface, and a box containing the articles to be exhibited, said box being formed from a blank cut to provide a front portion with an opening there-- in to display the articlescontained' in the box, said blank also being out to form integr'al' extensionsprojecting from each side of said front portion, said extensions forming. the' s'ide and rear walls of said box and being connected to the card, another extensionprovided on the blank, said last named extension being adapted to form the bottomof the box, and a partition for said box formed integral withat least one of the extensions providing the rear wall.
2. A display case comprising a card having a'display surface, and abox containing connected to 'said card, another extension provided on said blank and adapted to form the bottom wall of the box, and a partition arranged between the front wall and rear wall for dividing the boxinto compartments which have communication with the display openings in said front wall portion,l V
said'partition being formed by an integral s extension of the blank. 7 v r 3. A display case including a card, and a'box containing the articles to be exhibited,
said box being formed from ablank out to provide a front wall portion with a series of openings therein arranged to display the articles contained in thebox, side and bottom wall portions formed integral with said front wall portion, a rear wall portion com prising integral extensions of the side wall portions'a'd'apted to be secured to said card and having their edge portions bent to form a partition for said box; 1
