citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cynwyd, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Fan Blowers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to fan structures in which the fan is situated within a casing, and it has forl its general object to .provide novel means for enabling the removal of the fan from such casing for repair or other purpose.
A further object is to provide novel means for supporting said fan so that it may be readily inserted into or removed from the said casing Without disconnecting therefrom- -either the incoming or outgoing pipes or conduits through lwhich air,gases and the like are or may be conveyed.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a novel construction and arrangement wherein and wherebyone of the sides of the casing, when disconnected from the main o-r body portion of the casing, is adapted to be supported upon the fan structure.
Another objectA of the invention is to provide novel means for adjustably connecting the casing of the fan to its supporting cradle. f Other objects and advantages of the invention will be pointed out in the detailed description thereof which follows or will be' apparent from such description.
In order that the invention may be readily understood and its practical advantages fully appreciated, reference may be had to the accompanying drawings in which is depicted one form of embodiment thereof. However, it-will be understood that changes in the details of construction may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the invention.

Referring to the drawings: 1 ggsignates a base upon which are mounted the cradle supports 2 for the fan casing. The tpp edges of'these supports are concaved, as indicated at 3 in F lgs. 2 and 5, and said supports are provided with openings 3B therethrough as indicated.
The casing comprises the central, generally circular portion 4 having openings in the opposite sides thereof, which openings are surrounded by laterally extending flanges 5 and 6, each of which terminates in outwardly extending annular flange portions 7A and 8; that is to say, fianges which extend substantially at right angles to the axis of the casing. Cover plates 9 and lOare provided, which plates are provided with anges 11 and 12 at their'outer edges which correspond with the ano'es 5 and 6, and also with outwardly extendlng vannular flange portions 13 and 14 which correspond with the flanges 7 and 8 and are adapted to be secured thereto by means of threaded bolts 15 and 16 The flanges `and 13 and 8 and 14 are adapted to be seated upon the upper edges of the supports 2 and are adapted to be held in adjusted position thereon by means of clevislike binding and holding members 17. The inner spaced and unconnected ends of the 'opposite sides of these members are provided with openings through which certain selected ones of the bolts 15 and 16 are extended, as indicated in the drawings. rl.`he inner ends of clamping or binding screws 18, which have screw-threaded connection with the `integral connections between the `outer ends of the opposite sides of the said members, are adapted to contact with the outer edges of ortions of the supports 2, as best shown in %`ig. 6 of the drawlngs, for drawing and holding lthe edges of the anges 7 and 13 and 8 and 14 downwardly against the seats provided therefor in the upper edges of the said supports.l By loosening these binding screws the fan casing may be rovided with nuts, as shown.`

The cover 10 is provided with a central hollow flange-like projection 20 to which vone end of an inlet pipe or c0n-^ duit 21 may be secured. An outlet pipe or conduit 23 is secured to the end of a tangentially arranged hollow projection 24 leading from the fan casing.
The fan comprises blades of the usual known construction which project radially from a hub 31 which is mounted upon and securedY to a sleeve 32 which in turn is secured upon the inner end of a shaft 33 driven from a motor 34 and the shaft 35 to which it is connected by means of a coupling 36. The fan is held upon the shaft by means of a nut and washer 37 and 38. The shaft 33 is supported upon roller bearing devices 40 at the opposite ends'of a supportingl cylindrical casing or housing 41 upon the upper end of a bracket support 45 which is lslidably connected with and supported upon the base 1. The said support 45 is adapted to be held in adjusted positionTllily e bracket support 45 is provided with a laterally projecting extension 46 to which the motor is secured and upon which it is supported.
The cover or closure ortion `9 of the casing is provided with a anged opening 48 at its centerinto which an annular flange-like projection 49 from the hub portion 31 of the fan rojec-ts. The' said projection fits closelywithin the said opening and by means of suitable packing is rendered air-tight.
For the purpose of rigidly connecting the y closure 9 ofthe casing with a party of the bracket support 45 in order to retain it inproper relation to the vfan, I haveJ provided a bracket, comprising oppositely and upwardly extending arms 50 and 51, which is secured by means of screw bolts 52 to the vupper side of the cylindrical casing or 'housing 41. The outer ends of these arms .are secured by means of screws 53-to the said closure 9. For the purpose of aiding in the retention of the closure in proper position and relation to other parts of the structure and to prevent it from tilting, I have provided abutment blocks 54 which are secured to the supporting frame 45 upon opposite sidesof a central vertical plane throughthe-apparatus which blocks are ladapted to contact with the side of the said'closure near the lower edge thereof.
By removing the bolts 15, thus disconnecting. the closure 9 from the portion 4 of the caslng and releasing or loosening the binding screws 45a, it will be seen that the bracket A support 45 together with the motor and other parts carried thereby including the fan supported upon `the inner end of the shaft 33 may be adjusted toward and from the casing to insert and removefthe fan into and from the casing. As the parts are adjusted in Fig. 4 the fan is within the casing while as they are adjusted in Fig. 1 the an is without the casing. The latter position affords access to 4the fan and the structure associated therewith so that the same may be inspected or readily repaired if repair be necessary.
By reason'of the employment of my invention it will be seen that the support for the fan together with the fan may be moved into position to remove the fan from the casing without disturbing or interfering with the connections between the inlet and outlet pipes or conduits with the casing; and also it will be seen-that the motor and connections between the same and the fan are carried upon the same support as the fan and are moved therewith.
Having kthus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a fan-blower, the combination of a casing, a fan, a bracket support for the said fan, the said'support and fan being adapted to be adjusted sol as to position the said fan Within thev said casing or outside of the same, and a closure for the opening within the casing through which the said an is adapted to be inserted and. removed, the said closure being supported upon ay portion of the Jian-supporting structure.
2. In a fan-blower, the combination of a fan, a casing for the fan havingv an opening in one side thereor` through which the said fan is adapted to be inserted and withdrawn,an adjustable bracket support for Lsupporting the said fan, which support is adapted to be adjusted toward and from said casing in order toinsert and remove the said fan into and from said casing, and a closure for ther said opening, which closure is supported upon a portion of the fansupporting structure and is adapted to be adjusted with the said fan and the said bracket support.
3. In a fan-blower, the combination of a fan, a casing for the said fan, said casing being pro-vided with an opening in one side thereof through which the said fan is adapted to be inserted and removed rom said casing, an adjustable support for the said fan,` which support is .adapted to be adjusted toward and from said a casing for the said fan, said casing/havinglr 3 a fianged opening in one nside thereof through Vto be secured to the flange of the said casing, means carried by the saidsupport and having connection With the said closure for holding the same in relatively fixed position, substantially as described.
5. In a fan-blower, the combination of a rotary fan having an annular projection extending outwardly from and concentrically of the hub thereof, a casing having a anged opening in one side thereof, a shai't upon and to which the said fan is secured, a motor for driving said shaft, an adjustable support for supporting said shaft and motor, a closure for closing the said opening, said closure being provided With a central opening into which the said projection extends, and also with a peripheral flange which is adapted to be secured to the ange' upon said casing, a bracket member secured to Said support and having connection with portions of the closure at peints upon one side of the said shaft, and means carried by the said support for contacting with por- Itions of the said closure upon the opposite side of said shaft to prevent tilting of said closure When disconnected from the said casing.
6. In a fan-blower, the combination of a casing having an opening in one side thereof, a support therefor, means whereby said casing maybe adjusted to and held in different positions upon its support, a rotar) fan, an adjustable means for supporting said fan, which means is adapted to be moved toward and from the said casing to move thesaid fan toward and from said casing to effect insertion thereof through said opening into and -from the said casing, and a closure carried by Said support and movable therewith for closing and opening the said opening. 1
