Description

F. E. TONIUTTI Oct. 2 19230 .LEGGING Filed Aug. "10. 1922 FRANK E; rpnI TrI, or ronnsr -raian, 11mm. 1
. p resents.
[Application filed August; 10, ie22fs na1'no: 580,878.
'To all whom it may concern."
1 object is to provide a legging, having creases,-
or sharply defined edges at the: front and back with means for securing the leggings upon a leg of the wearer without destroying the creases. Another object is to provide a legging which will reaohabove the knee, and having means for securing the legging upon a leg of the wearer without destroying the creases. Nit-h these and other objects and advantages in view, thisinvention consists in the several novel features hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the drawing accompanying this specification, in which: I
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a legging embodyin a simple form of the present invention; a ig. 2 is a side elevation showing certain flaps or side members of the legging unfolded; Fig. 3 is a horizontal section talren on the line 83 of Fi 1 showing the side members of the leggings slightly spread apart to more clearly illustrate the parts that secure the legging on the leg; and Fig. 41- is a detail horizontal section taken on the line 4t of Fig. 1. I
Referring to said drawing, the reference character 5 designates one side member of the logging, 6 the front side member, and 7 the rear side member, which form the other side of the legging, and 8 designates a strap which is stitched to the side member 5 and is fasteners 9. The
tachably secured together with the ordinary snapfastencrs 13, arranged along. their overlapping edge portions,'and said edge por tions are preferably faced with strips of facing n1aterial1d,:15. Y
To hold the legging on the leg of the wear er without distorting or disarranging its ereases, an elastic strip 16 is employed, adacent the upper portions 'of the logging, which strip is fastened to theedge portions of the side members 6, 7, at 17, 18, by stitches or other vise, and a, loop 19 is secured upon the side member 5' through which, the elastic strip 16- extends. As a'preference, the elastic strip may be contained in a casing 20 of light weight material. 5 j
The legging'is' preferably, although not necessarily so, constructed of rain proof or water proof material or any material which is made water proof by suitable means, as is .well understood by those skilled in the art to which this invention pertains, and to prevent rain from entering between the overlapping edge portion of the side members 6., 7,.the member? is formed with a troughlike edge portion 21 which intercepts the rain. This trough-like edge portion is formed by folding the edge of the material upon itself, as seen in Fig. a and stitching the same together by stitches 22 leaving the free edge 23 projecting-from the remainder of the goods. The cloth being water proof any water entering between the flaps 6, 7, will be caught by the, projecting edge portion or rib 23, and will be conveyed downward instead of passing between the flaps, and inconveniencing the wearer. i
/Vhile leggings constructed in accordance with the above description may be worn with any other garments, they have been designed for use in connection with, a rain and storm proof coat upon which I have filed an application on even date herewith under the Serial Fla-580,877. For this purpose, the leggings are provided with snap fastener members 24, adjacent their :upper. edges, whlch may be snapped uponcoacting snap-fastening members that are secured upon the rain and storm proofcoat, as is more fully set forth 1n my above mentioned co-pending application.
When in use. with the side members 6,
7, fastened'together, the elastic strip 16 grips thefleg of the wearer and supports the legging thereon without distorting the shape of thelegging. It is to be understood.
that the elastic strip is is of les length than the circumference of the legging at the place Where thejstrip is attached, so
that it, and not the legging grips the leg. B reason of this arrangement, the creases ot the legging "are not disturbed but-are maintained in the legging While being Worn.
More or less variation of the exact details o'f construction is possible Without departing from the spirit of this invention; I desire, therefore, not ,to "limit myself tov the exact term of the construction shown and described, fbut intendyin the following claims, to point out all of the invention dis-- closed herein. i V
I claim. as new and desire to secure 1) Letters Patent:
1. A. legging having front and back creased edges, and comprising a side legging member, front and back side legging members secured to the other side member at the front andrear edge portions thereof, fasten ing members for securing said, frontrvand back side members together and an elastic strip secured to the free edge portions of said front and back members, adjacent their upper ends, said elastic strip being free from the crcases at the ,f-rontand back, whereby the'up'per end of the legging may .be'secured on the leg of a user without disturbing the creases.
2. A legging having front and back creased edges,.and comprising a side legging member, front and back side 'leggmg;mem-
bers secured to said first mentioned side legging member at the front and rear edges thereof, anelastic stripf'isecured to the free edge portions'of said front and back side members, adjacent their upper ends, and a v loop on the first mentioned side member through which said elastic. strip extends, SiLlClGlflStlC strip being free from the creases 4. A legging comprising overlapping front .andbac'k side legging members, snap I fasteners for securing together the over lapping portions thereof, the free edge portion of the inner side member being doubled upon itself and stitched to the outer face of the legging member, to leave a projecting rib forming with said face a trough for shedding water.
