ASSEMBLAGE DEVICE FOR SPOBTING-GUN BARRELS.
Application filed May 3, 1921. Serial No. 466,426.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, PIERRE FABRY and MARGUERITE FABRY, subjects of the King of Belgium, and residents of Liege, Belgium, and of Herstal, Belgium, respectively, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Assemblage Devices for Sporting- Gun Barrels; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked therein, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to double-barreled sporting-guns and has for its object to pro vide an improved means for connecting the barrels of such guns with the barrel-lug or closing-piece whereby a secure assembly of these parts is obtained, without the use of expensive solder, which is especially adapted to resist the loosening strains which de velop when firing- The invention is illustrated in the acconnpanying drawings, in which Figs. 1 and 2 illustrate the back portions of the two barrels, respectively.

Fig. 5 is a view of the upper and lower bars or members which are arranged between the barrels forwardly of the connecting assembly.
Figs. 6 and 7 are transverse sectional views of the barrel assembly along the lines A-B and CD, respectively of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings, the barrels 1 and 2 when assembled are clamped between a barrel-lug or closing-piece 3 having a clos ing tenon 12 and a. lock-bar 4. The sides of the barrels 1 and 2 which face one an other are provided with laterally projecting ribs 6 and 7 extending longitudinally of the barrels and of dove-tail cross-section. whereby tenons 8 are provided. In the seinbled structure, as illustrated in Fig. 7. these ribs abut againstone another and re ceive the clamping pressure of the closing piece 3 and the lock-bar 4. From the view in Fig. 7, it will be seen that in cross-section the lower face of the combined ribs 6 and 7 is V-shaped and the upper face has the shape of an inverted V. The upper face of the piece 3 and the lower face of the bar 4 are grooved to fit the upper and lower faces 01 the combined ribs and it will be seen that this structure provides an interlocking en gagement between the members 3 and l and the ribs 6 and 7 whereby relative lateral. displacement of the parts of the assemblage is prevented. The closing-piece 3 is provided with lateral ribs 11 extending longitudinally of the closing-piece and which project into corresponding grooves 10 in the under faces of the barrels 1 and 2- Screws 5 extending through the lock-bar 4 and screwed into the closing-piece 3 secure the entire assembly together. Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, it will be seen that the ribs 6 and 7 have grooves to receive the shanks of the screws.
In order to assemble the parts, the barrels are first arranged with the lateral ribs abutting each other and with the corrcsponding grooves for the reception of the shanks of the screws 5 in exact registry. Thereafter, the closing-piece 3 is placed beneath and the loclebar 4 above the ribs '6 and 7, and finally the screws 5 are inserted and tightened so as to firmly clamp the ribs 6 and 7 between the piece 3 and bar 4. By reason of the interlocking engagement be tween the ribs 6 and 7 and the members 3 and 4 and between the ribs 11 and the grooves 10, the assembly is capable of resisting effectively all lateral strains tending to loosen it.
Preferably in assembling the parts a solder will be used, but it is not necessary to use an expensive solder as one of feeble resistance may be utilized, such as tin solder. The different parts of the assemblage will be pitched in the liquid tin before their assembly.
Having now particularly described our invention, what we claim is 1. The combination with two sporting- .o-un barrels, of a barrel lug, a lock bar. said barrels, barrel lug and lock bar being provided with interlocking portions for clamping the rear portions of said barrels between said lug and bar, and means operable to draw said lug and bar towards each other, thus preventing any displacement of the barrels.
2. The combination with two sportinggun barrels, of abutting ribs projecting laterally from the side faces of the rear portions of the barrels which are opposite each other, said ribs being of dove-tail cross-sec' tion, a barrel-lug beneath said ribs, a lockbar above said ribs, said lug and bar being shaped to fit said ribs, and screws cooperating with said lugand bar for clamping said ribs firmly between said lug and bar.
3. The combination with two sportinggun barrels, of abutting ribs projecting laterally from the side faces of the rear por tions of the barrels which are opposite each other, said ribs being of dove-tail cross-section, a barrel-lug beneath said ribs, a lockbar above sad ribs, said lug and bar having grooves in their faces to receive said ribs, screws cooperating with said lug and bar for clamping said ribs firmly between said lug and bar, and ribs integral with the lateral faces of said lug and extending longitudinally thereof'and interlocking in grooves formed in the under faces of said barrels.
4. A combination according to claim 1 said means also operating to draw the rear portions of said barrels together.
