To '(zZ/ftetomb" mrtg/economen.'
iBeit linownthat l, Geenen O.Pownt a citizen ot' the United rlStates, residing at ldlynnewood, in thecount-y of Garvinand 5 .State ot.Gltlahoinmhave invented a new and use-ful Churn, 'ot'irhich thetollowing isa specitication.'
The device Vforming the subjectmatter of this application is a churn ot the general sort shownV in niy prior Patent No. 829,291
issued on August 21, 1906.' Y,
The invention iroposes sundry improveniente in the patented churn, one improvenient IJeing so to construct the churn that the inillt will not rise through the openings in the base, as the .plungerrods reciprocate, and accumulate on the standard. Another improvement relates to the means for securing the standard to the base. i f i,
lt is 'within the proyinceoi the disclosure to improve generally and-to enhance the utility ot'devicesoi that type to 'which the Vinvention appertains.
With the aboveV and other objects in View, which AWill appear as the description proA` ceeds, the invention resides'in the combination and arrangement parts and in the details of construction Vhereinafter described and claimed, Vit beingrunderstood that, With- 3l in the scope of 'what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment et the invention shown can be Inade Without departing` trein #the spirit vof the invention. Y In the accompanying drawings:
.Figure l shows in elevation, a device constructedin accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is an Velevation-Wherein the device is viewed at right angles Ato the showing otlligure l; Figure 3 is a tragnientnl Vertical section; Figure l is a criss section on the line Ll-ll ol` Figure 3; Figure 5 is a bottom 'plan showing the flashers; Figure 6 is a perspective View illustrating one ot the attaching elements.
the'churn shown in iny Patent No; 829,291, the description in this application niafy he shortened accordingly, since many parts et the device hereinafter described are shown in the patent alluded to.
' The numeral l'inarl-:s a base adapted to be mounted on a churn body 2. A standard is shown at 3 fand rests its lower end on the base l, the hase l Wing an upstanding doivel pin Ll engaged in the lowerend of the standard A pulley 5 is journaled `standing handles 7.
Since tie device'is an improvement on'V 1923. Serial No. 553,277.
'tor rotation in the upper end ol the standard 3, and it 1s proposed that the pulley 5 shall be a ball Vbearing pulley. Slides 6 `aJe mounted for vertical reciprocation in 60 the standard 3 and are equipped With outf A flexible-element 8 is connectedV at its ends to the slides G and is trained across the pulley 5. rlhe upper ends oi" dasher rods 9 are secured to the slides 6 and operate in openings l() fashioned in the base l. @n the lower ends ot' the rods 9. dashers ll areinounted.
,An angular latch l2 is one side oi' the standard 3 and includes a horizontal arin l5 having a slot i6 Vadapted to enga-ge beneath a wing nut 1T on a stud i8 carried by the base .1.Y One of the ini: groveinents contemplated relates to the attachment et' the standard to the base l. lnY my, prior patent, the standard is attached to'the base through the instrumentality of a hook adapted to engage beneath a bar secured by block on the base. It has been claimed by soine, that the construction above `described is detective in that it atlords no adjustment; ln order to remedy thisdiliieulty recourse is had to an angle bracket i9., including a. vertical tlange 20and a horirental flange 2l, the vertical ilange 2O being attached by securing elements 22 to the standard 3 at the lower end of the standard. ln the horizontal lange 2l there is an end slot .23 adapted to engage beneath the head 2d ot an adjusting device, such as a. screw 25 threaded into the base l. It will be obvious that. by rotating the screu7 25, the saine may be inoved lengthwise, thereby .enabling the head ot the screw to cooperate properly with the slotted horizontal 'Bange 2l ot' the angle bracket 19.
Another alleged defect which seine have Vfound in the patented churn above alluded to is that the dasher rods Wei-lt so close to the standard 3 that, as the dasher rods reciprocate, the milk is carried upwardly through the holes in the base l and find lodgment on the standard 3. ln order to remedy this shortcorning.` hangers are suj lied. the lower ends 2T el the hanger being` offset horizontally troni the upper ends 28 of the hangers, the lo Wer ends ot the hangers being mounted in the dasher rods 29, and the upper ends of the hangers bearing against the outer suriaees ot the slides the upper ends 28 on the hangers having seats 29 adapted to be engaged beneath pivoted at. l-t to cured to the opposite side of the standard, Y
What is 4claimed is: 1
.Y l. ln a device o't the class described a base, a standard mounted on thehase, a pulley carried by the standard, a flexible element trained across the pulley` rods connectM ed ,tol the flexible elementand niountedor reciproca-tion in the standard, pressure rods 'slidable inthe basefand connected to the slides. an angular latch pivoted to one side `of the standarch means on the base Where with fth'eV latch engages, an angielbraclet comprising horizontal and vertical alfine, the vertical'arin of the angle bra cket being; se-
the horizont-al arm of the angle bracket havment trainedv:across the pulley, guides mounted for reciprocation on theV standard and connected to thev flexibl'efeleinent, rods mounted lor reciproca'tion in theV has@` the base having' openings 'wherein tl'ierods v'are shdahle dashers carried by therodsyhangers connected at theiry ends to theslides .and to the rods, the upper and'loWej' ends of the hangers being o'l'set horizontally, thereby to increase thespaee 'between the rodsand the standard and toperinit the openings to be located .entirely outside of the cross see-V tional conton'rot the standard Vthus-to' prevent the mill: which is carried upwardly byV the .rodsv from accu'muladingA on the standard. ln testimony that l elaun the foregoing as inyouun l have heretoja'lhfzed my Signature ni thepresence ot'two Witnesses,
Y Y lGEORG@ QQPOVVELL.
