SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 273,663, dated March 6, 1883. Application led November 4, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom z't lmay concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE BRETT, of the city of Toronto, in the county ot' York, in the Province of Ontario, Dominion ot'Oanada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wooden Pumps, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is t0 provide a permanent pump-handle fulcrum on the head of a cone-shaped pump; and it consists in clamping onto the side of the pump -body, near its top, a metal bracket curved to fit the pump-body, and provided with a horizontal bearing to support the pivotal pin of the handle, as hereinatter more particularly explained.

loprovide alarge bearing for the pump-handle it has been the custom heretofore to form a square head on the top of the body of the pump, on which the bearing-box for the pivotal pin ofthe pump-handle was bolted. This necessitated the making ot' the head separate from the body, in order that the latter might be hooped, and which peculiar shape ot pumpbody was invented and patented by Charles Powell, of Toronto. To obviate the necessity ot' this sectional pump-body, which possesses certain objectionable features not necessary to enumerate, I devised my pump-handle-fnlcrum bracket A, which is curved, as indicated, to t the body of the pump B, to which it is clamped by the staple-bolts O, as indicated. The bracket A is formed with shoulders d, recessed on their under side to receive the ends of the staple-bolts, and also provided with a perforation, e, through which the ends of bolts are projected to receive a nut for securing the bracket to the pump. In order to assist in sustaining the bracket A in position, I form a flange, b, which rests 0n top ofthe pump-body, and on its interior surface a projecting pin or teat, a, which ts in a hole bored to receive it in the body of the pump.

1 am aware that brackets for supporting the lever or handle of a pump have been secured to the pump by passing around the upper end thereof, and therefore make no claim to such construction, but limit myself to the special construction hereinafter claimed.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. The combination, with apump-body, ofa curved metal bracket having a iange to rest on the top of the pump-body and a bearing tor'supporting the pump-handle, said bracket being secured to the pump by clamps, as set forth.
2. The combination, with apump-body, ofa bracket, A, for supporting the pump-handle, secured to the upper end thereof by clamps, and provided with a projection, a, for entering a like shaped hole in the pump-body, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination, with a pump-body, ofa bracket, A, secured to the upper end thereof by clamps, and provided with a flange, b, and projection a, as shown and described.
4. The bracket A, formed with shoulders d, pert'orations e, projection a, and iange b, in combination with the clamps or staple-bolts O,
as set forth.
