Description
Sept. 18, 1923.
G. H. SACKET HAT OR THE LIKE Filed Jap. 31. 1921 Patente Sept. s, was.
inten GRACE n. SACKET, or RACINE, WISCONSIN.
HAT OR THE LIKE.
Application filed January 31, 1921. Serial No. 441,297.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I. GRACE H. SACKET, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Racine, in the county of Racine and State of lVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hats or the like, of which the following isa description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hats or the like and has for one of its objects to provide a hat which may be easily and cheaply constructed in various designs and which will be extremely light and comfortable to the wearer.
Another object of this invention is to provide a hat which is formed of a bendable member having cloth or other suitable material substantially concealing the same, said cloth covered member being looped into the desired shape to form the completed article.
A further object of this invention is to provide a hat structure which is formed of bendable Wire preferably entwined in strip materials of preferably cloth, paper or the like and then interlooped into shape, the finished article being light bending to form a hat of the desired design.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter described pended claim, it being understood that such changes in the precise embodiment of the hereindisclosed invention maybe made as come within the scope of the claim.
40 In the accompanying drawing, l have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention constructed according to the best mode'I have sofar devised for the practical application of the principles thereof, and in whichz- Figure 1 is a side view of a hat embodying my invention; r Figure 2 is an enlarged detail view illustrating the manner of looping the cloth covered wire forming the hat structure; and
and capable of as at l0. and is then and more particularly defined by the ap on the body wire.
In the drawing, the numeral 5 a completed hat which may be i designates ii any manner shaped or formed and which is composed of a material carrying wire or other bendable material. 6 interlooped in the manner hereinafter described. The wire 6 is preferably bendable but non-flexible so that the completed form may be bent sired shape.
The wire 6 is into the depreferably threaded through a strip of material 7 which be tafi'eta,
paper or other ably twisted, as' at 8. The wire ably threaded through the strip material and which is prefer- 6 is preferof material 7, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3, while the material is preferably, although not necessarily, flat. Thereafter the twisted or spirally wound material on the wire, the
turns in the material being indicated at 8 in F 1g. 3. The covered wire 6 is then interlooped from the crown and the have the free end of the outer loops wire drawn therethrough from the underside, as at 9, and then over and through the last formed loop,
passed through the next loop when the operationis repeated, as
,clearly illustrated in Figure 2.
From the foregoing description taken in connectlon with the accompanying drawing, it will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which an invention acter appertains, that I have fnovel manner of constructing ladies which will produce a hat of eXtr of this charprovided a hats, cmely light weight, attractive in appearance, and which is susceptible to sired shape. shape due to ready shaping into the de- The hat will readily retain its the fact that the wire 6 is preferably bendable but non-flexible.
VVha't I claim as my invention is:
The method of looping a braid of material formed of a bendable member threaded through a ribbon which winding said braid and ofbraid around the next In testimony whereof I aiiix m GRACE H.
consists in spirally looping each row adjacent row.
