bathed@ Y PENNANT EMBCDYIN'CtPICTURE FRAME.
Appncaun aieuaanuary 2c, 192i.' sei-iai no. 440,100.
To all whom t 'may concern."
Be it known that I, CINCO` S'. CD9., asubject of the Emperor of Japan, residing'at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Pennant Embodying Picture F rames, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to pennants, and the primary object of the invention is to .provide an .improved means for supporting and holding a Vpicture or photograph upon the pennant body, sothat one of the college athletes picture may be made apart of the pennant.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved means for detachably holding a picture in position on apennant body so that the same can be removed and another substituted therefor when desired. A still further obj ect ofthe invention is to provide animproved pennant having a pic` ture frame and picture associated therewith which is formed of iiexible material, so as to permit the waving of the pennant on a field or other Y place of college or fraternity activities. y
A. still further object of the invention is to provide an improved device of the above character which is durable and eiiicient in use, one that is simple and easy to manufacture, and one which can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description taken in connection with the drawings, in which drawings: Y
FigureA 1 is a.V perspective view improved pennant and picture frame.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary detail enlarged view of the penna-nt and picture frame, showing` a portion of the same in raised position, illustrating the manner of attaching the frame to the pennant.
Figure 3 is a detail enlarged vertical section through the pennantand frame.
Figure i is a fragmentary enlarged rear elevation of the improved pennant showing the means of positioning the picture in the improved frame.
Referring to the drawings, in detail, wherein similar reference characters desig 'c the nate corresponding parts throughout the.
several views, the letter A indicates the improved pennant having a picture frame edge of the pennant body 5 is provided with G5 a. reinforcing strip 7 having the usual attaching strips 8 secured thereto whereby the pennant may be attached to a-pole or cane 9.
JThe frame B includes substantially rectanguiar open body 10, which is secured at its outer edge to the pennant bodyby suitable stitches ll. By stitching the outer edge of Vthe open body lO to the body 5 of the pennant, inwardly extending free flanges l2 are provided behind which,y the picture C is adapted to be confined. A. flexible thin strip or film of Celluloid, isinglass orthe like may be positioned in front of the picture C and engagement with the inwardly extending flanges l2, for forming a protection for the picture C and if so desired, the transparent stripl?) may be secured by suitable stitches li to the inner edge of the flanges l2 of the frame l0.
The body 5 of the pennant A is provided 85 with a horizontal slit l5 which extends substantially the width of the open body 10 adjacent to the upper end thereof and forms means whereby the picture C may be readily inserted in the pocket formed by the body '5 U0 of the pennant and the opened body l0 of the frame.
rihe picture C is preferably printed on relatively thin iienible paper and may be of any desired member of a foot ball team, or
other notable of the college or other organization. Owing to the extreme simplicity of the frame, and the fact that only one additional ply of material is necessary to form the frame, the frame may be made very cheaply and the relative thinness of the Vframe and pennant will permit the same to readily flex, to permit the pennant or banner to be rolled or waved upon a field when` desired.
Changes in details may be made without departing from. the spirit or scope of my invention; but,
I claim: Y A display device comprising a main body poi'tion of fabricV capable of being readily Ilexed or waved7 Va relatively smaller irani'e of iabrio VCapable of being .readily il'ened or waved, Said frame having a sight opening and Secured to the main body portion at the outer margin of the frame, said main body portion havinga slit adjacent one of the margins of the frame providing an opening from the back ofthe main body poition to the real of the iane, and a photograph or like picture Von material capable of being flexed o1' waved disposed between said main body portion and fram@ the photograph o1' like picture being visible through theV sight opening of the frame.
