IMPROVEMENT IN TOOL-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,759, dated January 27, 1F74; application tiled December 30, 1873.
To all whom it may concern: i
Beit known that I, ISAAC FINK, of Hillsborough, in the county of Montgomery and State of Illinois, have invented an Improvev nient in Tool-Holders, of Which the following is a specification: m
VThe object of my invention is to forni a convenient fastening for tools used in cutting, puneturing, and similar purposes in mechanical operations, and for instruinents used by professional nien, which can be quickly disengaged from the holder or handle, and another substituted, or, when separated, conveniently packed in a smalleonipass for future use.
Figure 1 ofthe drawing is a side view of the holder or handle. Fig. 2 is a top view of the saine. Fig. 3 is a section through line .uv .n of Fig. 2, with a tool fastened in position for use. Fig. 4 is a view ofthe holder and tool in a po sition ready to be detached.
A is the holder; I3, the tool; U, the riveted pivot; I), the sliding catch; E, the latch; F, the notch in the tool at the end; G, the' slotted notch admitting the pivot; and Il the nieta-l brace or strengthener around the handle.
The holder or handle is to be constructed ordinarilyr of wood, ivory, horn, or similar appropriate material', secured by the strengthening band of metal H, extending along its sides and over the end. A slot, I, eut in the end admits the beveled end of the tool'B to be fastened. The slotted notch G receives the riveted pivot C', and the end of the slot G, turning at rightangles, exactly fits it, so that when the slide I) is moved into the slot I at The holder may be made to receive a tool or ii'istruinent at either end, using the same appliances for fastening as above described.
The use of the fastening islnot to be conned to any one kind of tool or class of instruments, but may be adapted to all descriptions of coupling where a handle is necessary.
Having thus described 4 my invention, I Clainiy rIhe combination ofthe holder A, as shown, with a tool or instrument Whose end is beveled to fit said holder, and is provided with the right-angled slot G and straight slot D, near the beveled end, all, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes shown.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing iu venton I have hereunto set my hand this 22d day of August, 1873.
ISAAC IV. FINK. Witnesses:
