In order to maintain this intermeshing relation, two plates 25 are secured'on opposite sides of the gear 23 and lie above and below the racks 21 and 22, these plates projecting beyond the perimeter of the gear 23, so that the racks 21 and 22 operate between 'the plates in a groove or way provided by the outer portions of said As the rack 22 is stationary, it is apparent that when the pitman 19 is moved, the gear 23 meshing with said raclr 22 will produce an increased movement in 'the rack 21, thus giving to the carriage 6 a greater movement than the throw of the pitman.
