Description

Patented Aug. 7, 1923.
SAMUEL M. SCHERIER,
0E MARION, INDIANA.
DISPLAY RACK.
Application filed April 18, 1922. serial No. 555,296.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, SAMUEL M. SoHEREn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Marion, county of Grant, and State of Indiana have invented a certain new and useful llisplay Rack; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals refer to like parts.
This invention relates to a display and vendin cabinet for cartons and cans. The chief object of the invention. is to provide a display and vending cabinet which will display the cartons and cans to be vended and which will permit the ready vending of the same therefrom as Well as the refilling thereof.
The chief feature of the inventionconsists in the means for accomplishing the aforesaid object.
Another feature of the invention consists in the means whereby the display and vending cabinet may be sub-divided into suitable compartments to accommodate the respective cans and cartons.
The full nature of this invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims.
"in the drawings Fig. 1 is a front view of a portion. of a display and vending cabinet embodying the features of the invention. 2 is a side elevational view of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2 and in the direction of arrows.
in the drawings 10 indicates the base which is herein shown provided with a plurality of supporting partitions 11 to provide the bins 12. Supported upon the base is a display and vending cabinet construction comprising a bottom 13, a top 1% and an inclined back wall 15 as well as an end wall. Herein the top and bottom walls 14 and 13 respectively are shown provided with a plurality of notches 17 adapted to receive the tongue portions of the partition walls or strips 18. if desired, the ton no and grooved portions may be reverse or any other suitable means may be provided for adjustably positioning and securing the partition walls as desired. In the aforesaid manner the widths of the several compartments formed by the partition walls will be respectively adjusted to the widths of the cartons and the diameters of the cans.
Herein each partition wall and the end walls are shown provided with a plurality of parallel rooves 20. The grooves of 0pposing partition walls 18 are positioned opposite each other and in one of said pairs of grooves is positioned a transparent or glass closure member 21, while in the other is positioned another closure member 22 substantially similar thereto. it will be understood from Fig. 2 that the closure member 21 is quite long but is not equal in length to the height of the cabinet, thereby leaving a space which is not covered. Herein suitable means, such as the hook 23 secured to the top 14, is adapted to engage a loop 24 carried by the closure member 21 to maintain said closure member in the elevated or raised )osition, thereby leavin an opening in the bottom, as shown clear y in Fig. 2. The closure member 22 is slidably supported, as heretofore described, adjacent the transparent closure member 21 and is maintained in its lowered or closed position by gravity, thereby torn'iing a closed compartment for cans or cartons. Suitable handle means 25 secured to the closure member 21 permits said closure member to be elevated so that the lowermost can or carton may be removed from the display and vending cabinet conipartment.
The wall 15, it will be noted, is inclined and therefore, a portion of the weight or the cans and cartons is supported by said wall, as well as by the bottom 13 and, therefore, in view of said inclination a can and carton will always be read for vending purposes. When it is desirec to refill the compartment, the hook 23 is disengaged from the eye or loop 24 and the closure member 21 is lowered and the cans or cartons are supplied to the compartment from the top. If desired, the top 14 may be hinged to the back 15.
The invention claimed is:
1. A display and vending cabinet includ- :ing a top and bottom, a transverse side forming partition adjustably and rigidly secured to said top and bottom to form a compartment therein, another side forming memher, a front closure member slidabl supported by said partition and memlber, a second front closure member slidably supported adjacent said first mentioned closure member, means for maintaining the first mentioned closure member in fixed position, and means on the second closure member for sliding the same.
2. A display and vendin ing a top and bottom, a air of sides anda partition secured to sai top and bottom to form a plurality of compartments, and an individual closure means for each comcabinet includpartment, comprising a rigidly secured member terminating above the bottom and another member completing the closure and slidably supported adjacent thereto for upward movement to provide access to the individual compartment.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto afiixed my signature.
SAMUEL M. SCHERER.
