MCHIGAN.
MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF nnrnrsnnn'ron.
Application led April `23, 1921. Serial No. $3,841.
To all whom it may. concern:
Be it known that l, HERBERT H. HILLMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Haven, in the county of Ottawa and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Refrigerators, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to refrigerators and the like; and its object is to prov vide an improved lining for such a strncture and improved means for securing such lining in place.
This object is attained by, and the invention linds preferable embodiment in, the structure hereinafter particularly described and illustrated by the accompanying draw ings, in which:
Figure 1 is a sectional view of the lower part of my refrigerator lining and of the lower part of the body of the refrigerator, taken on a vertical plane corresponding to line 1-1 of Figure 2;
Figure 2 is a like view of the same taken on a horizontal plane corresponding to line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 8 is a view in Vperspective of my lining for refrigerators and the like;
Figure l is a sectional view of the same taken on a vertical plane corresponding to line L1-4 of Figure 3; and
Figure 5 is a sectional view of said lining taken on a horizontal plane corresponding to line 5--5 of Figure 4, and thus exhibiting in top plan view the bottom member or por-- tion of said lining.
In the embodiment of the invention chosen for illustration by the drawings and for detailed description in the body of this specification, a refrigerator is shown having a body portion or frame designated generally 1 comprising the front side 2, right-hand side 3 and corresponding left-hand side (not shown). This front side 2 has a door opening closed by a door 4f hinged at 5. My lin-l ing for the refrigerator, preferably of metal porcelainedf7 has an open-front registering with the door opening of the body of the refrigerator as shown, side portions 6, 7 adjacent its open front, a back portion 8, top portion 9, and a bottom portion or member 10, which in the construction shown is formed of diiferent piece from that composing the side, back and top portions, being joined thereto at the lower edge 101 of the side and back portion. The bottom portion or member 10 is yhollow as shown, having a raised peripheral rim 11 a part 12 whereof, which is adjacent the open front of the lining, extends first outwardly at 13 and then downwardly at 14, thus forming a depending Hange-said downwardly extending part le. rlhe sides 6, 7 have respectively outwardly turned flanges 15, 16, and the top portion 9 has a similar outwardly turned flange 17. rl'hese flanges 15, 16, 17 are held between the inner side of members 18 of the body and the retaining members or strips 19, as by screws 20, and the downwardly extending portion or Hange lll of the bottoms riIn is similarly held between the inner side of the member 21 of the body and a retainingr member or strip 22 as by screws 23. lt will be seen that the rims part 13 extending forwardly toward the door further than the flanges 15,16 of the sides 6, 7 extend, the retaining member 22 is located nearer the front of the refrigerator than are the retaining members 19 which hold the sides flanges 15, 16 in place.
A drain orifice 2e is provided in the bottom member 10 as shown. lt will be seen that water, etc. cannot run out of the refrigerator door, but may readily flow through the orifice 24, thus keeping the front of the refrigerator dry and clean; and also that the lining` is securely held in the refrigerators body in the manner described.
Finishing strips 25, 26 may be attached as shown. y
rlhe invention being intended to be pointed out in the claim, is not to be limited to or by details of construction of the particular embodiment thereof illustrated by the drawings or'hereinbefore described.
l claim:
ln a refrigerator and the like; a body having a door in its front side; an openfront lining for the body having sides adjacent its open 'front provided with outwardly turned flanges, and having a bottom provided with a raised rim comprising a lirst portion extending upwardly and substantially in the vertical plane in which lie the extremities of said Hanges, a second portion eXtendng beyond said flanges outwardly toward the door and a third portion extendn ings)- downwardly 'from said second portion; retaining members vfastened to the inside of the .body and holding said ianges between them and the body; and a retaining member in substantially the same Vertical planes as the first-mentioned retaining members and engaging between said first and third portions and secured to the body.
19th day of April7 1921. HERBERT H. HILLMAN.
